I thought it'd be a good idea to make a thread where people could put on some of their favourite controversial lyrics. Controversial, mind you, doesn't necessarily mean offensive... Just lyrics about like politics, religion, war, or any other modern debatable subject. So we could put on some lyrics, and then discuss them. I find that normally punk and metal works well for this kind of thing, but anything anybody likes will do nicely . I'll start with one...

This song is not a bash on religion. It's actually a response to George W. Bush Senior's speach during the Gulf War, when he stated that they would win because Jesus was on their side. Tell me what you guys think, and please submit more lyrics so we can discuss them

Like most of Choking Victim's / Leftöver Crack's / The Crack Rock Steady 7's lyrics, "500 Channels" speaks against US materialism and how, according to them, most of the US lives in blissful ignorance with respect to what's really occuring around them. I wanna know what other people have to say about this... But if anybody's offended, ya'll don't have to say anything. Just close the window or go somewhere else. I don't want to have a bunch of people *****ing at me about stupid shi.t. These lyrics are controversial, and they're called controversial for a reason... Of course, you can disagree, and give reasons why, but don't flame me, the song, or the band just cause the song hurt your feelings.

That's Angel Of Death by Slayer

It caused controversy amongst the people who were closed minded and couldn't be bothered to read the lyrics because they assumed it was about Satan but in reality it was about Josef Mengele (March 16, 1911– February 7, 1979).

Mengele was a German SS officer and a physician in the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau who gained notoriety chiefly for being one of the SS physicians supervising the selection of arriving transports of prisoners, determining who was to be killed and who was to become a forced laborer, and for performing human experiments on camp inmates, amongst whom Mengele was known as the "Angel of Death".

Of course, Josef Mengele was huge in WWII and the Jewish holocaust... I remember in ninth grade (I knew about him, but not Mendel, the biologist) I was taking biology and when my teacher said something about Mendel, I said something along the lines of "wasn't he this crazy Nazi mo fo that killed a bunch of people?" I got kicked out of class cause he thought it was a tasteless joke. But he's an ******* and got fired anyway so whatever.

It's kinda hard to believe that people could be so dumb as to think this was about Satan : / the song starts, after all, with "Auschwitz." I'd think it was obvious enough what it was about.

Twisted lyrics, good choice. Good band, too, Slayer's dope.

the one that comes to mind most readily is the song by Depeche Mode which goes : I don't want to start any blasphemous rhumours,
but I think that God's got a sixth sense of humour
