To Helena (To Whom I Barely Know)

Today we gazed from afar, on my clearer days, I’ve seen you near

And wasn’t it strange to lose hope, on that stale fear?

You’ve contained yourself in a miscreant castle, only to have seen your stumble

But was it worth avoiding all that trouble?

The world looks down upon you, and you upon it, ,you always quit!-

But if you turned over, you’d feel stars at arm’s length

Oh, Helena you give me strength!

And your choked companion can’t bear all he can’t ever understand

And you know there’s no panacea in some faraway land

Dream with me to St. Augustine, we’ll dry up all the old hope

And give it to all the lifeless forms, the jester and the pope

I’ve seen your hand and it’s full of blank cards, you’ve torn half and burned one

And never gave yourself to the bards, and look out, don’t get that gun!

I know I haven’t quenched your fears, a simple smile would barely suffice

And you’ve never flown into the night, you’re afraid you won’t entice!

You never asked yourself how you found this place,

This place it came to you

You’ve given downtrodden communes,

A smile and a wave or two

And they seek you out for what you are, but only you and I know who!

Dream with me to St. Augustine, we’ll dry up all the old hope

And give it to all the lifeless forms, the jester and the pope

I’ve seen your hand and it’s full of blank cards, you’ve torn half and burned one

And you never gave yourself to the bards, and look out, don’t get that gun!

The faithful men of Holy Oaks talk behind closed doors

They won’t have you in their home; they’ll gladly see you in their stores

And you know even the leper lives in a gated garden throne

But Helena, we both know you’re always walkin home

Your simple words I can barely see, they’ve been already carved in stone

But what’s a garden full of pebble’s, unless it’s all you’ve known!

Now He-Lena can’t you see, the world’s spin is waitin on you

Dampen the fire in the cave and the shadows won’t dance for you

But oh, Helena, can’t you see

The shadow hides alone

Dear Helena, may you never be, alone.
