This is a really, really old Armenian folk song. Many have used this music to remake versions in different languages, but it is an original Armenian piece of music. Since, Heda Hamzatova is not Armenian, her pronunciation is obviously not 100%, although she does a lovely job. We call it "Hayastan" -- hye place OR Armenian place. "KATCHER" [plural of kach/kaj]—In Armenian mythology, refers to a race of mortals endowed with magic powers, such as casting, lifting spells, taking on other than human forms, etc. Armenians who fought to protect our nation against invading barbarians (often, turks) are called "Kajer" or "Hye Kajer". This song is about just that-- the brave Armenians who protected our nation.

Here you are! Note, "Hamayak" is a male's name. This is a very old Armenian song, which I personally love. It's a funny and romantic song about a man named Hamayak. The singer is in love with him and his beauty, but he has absolutely no wealth (thus, the teasing about his boots). She says that she wants to marry him anyway, despite his financial standing. She says that she'd rather starve to death, than be without him. Enjoy!
