Oh ok, i wouldve thought you spoke atleast some arabic words at home (even some assyrian words i never knew existed were actually in iraqi-arabic lol) but i speak with the ashiret dialect (like many other western and central groups) i.e the T we say TH 'Asheeta - Asheetha'. Arabi and Farsi seem like simple languages to learn but i think the writing part is just a bit hard. Btw you added me on msn but i cant find you on my list though lol

Having said that, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with a song translation. I had used the shadmehr Agili's song for my wedding DVD. I used 2 English songs and one Persian. Setareh, by Shadmehr Agili being the one. I have tried everything to translate this thing, but unfortunately I have not been successful at all. I even wrote to Shadmehr, but never responded back to me.

This song from what I can understand means a lot to me and it really makes me emotional every time I listen to it. Unfortunately my wife (Canadian) does not speak/understand Persian at all. I was wondering if someone will be kind enough o translate this song for me. My 1 year anniversary is coming up in June 24 and I’m running out of time. I wanted to have the translated version ready for her and give it to her on our anniversary night. Can someone please help me?

*sends major hugs* Vanda, I'm so sorry for your loss. Last September, my cousin in California died in a car accident. She was only 21, an only child, and her parents are both in their 60s. It's been the hardest part of my life, through a rough childhood, a horrendous divorce between my parents, and now losing someone I thought of as my sister. It was even more scary to think I could have been there with her, except I decided not to go to school there after all. And a month later, I get a hysterical phone call from my aunt saying my cousin is dead. *sigh* It's very rough, and there isn't a day goes by that I don't think of her, or feel guilty that I'm here and she isn't. But I suppose I just have to accept that God has a plan and a reason for everything. And the truth is, only the good die young. People who are free of spirit and kind and generous don't belong on Earth. They belong someplace better.

I know I don't know you at all, but I really hope knowing someone is undergoing the same pain you are might be helpful. Just take this time to appreciate your family and friends, those closest to you, those who mean the most to you. And appreciate yourself, most of all. Because you only get one of you, so make the most of it.

Hi Ecoliqua! =D Lol yeah it is kind of hard. You can just call me Mariam, that is afterall my name.

Brata D'Ishtar = Daughter of Ishtar in Assyrian [which is what I am, same as Paul]. Ishtar was the Mother Goddess of Assyrian Mythology, pre-Christianity. Goddess of War, Love, and Fertility. Yeah. She was pretty freaking awesome. =D

Mariam Sotah is a nickname my cousins call me. I have mostly younger cousins, and I'm 19. It's a funny story. I was sitting on the floor of my 14 year old cousin's bedroom and I got up and said "Ow! My back hurts!" And she said "Haha! Old Lady Mariam! Mariam Sotah!" Sotah means old lady in Assyrian. So, it's just kind of funny, because Paul and I were saying how we like older music, even though we're young people. =D

And I guess we always do use a few Arabic words, sometimes unknowingly. But it' s funny having my dad's family be from Iraq, where they'll sometimes throw in Arabic [but they've all been in the States for atleast 20 years, so it's really either Assyrian or English] but my mom's family from Iran hasn't been here more than 5 years. So they'll say things like "Ashboskhahnah" , which is almost identical to Farsi, for kitchen instead of "mudbukh" as Iraqi Assyrians tend to say. And "Jdeelah" for ice instead of "talgah" and gdeelah for key with a hard g sound. So yeah, it's always kind of interesting because if I use certain words sometimes they won't get it and I have to reexplain using a different word. And oddly enough though we're all Oormigniah. =D

To those who speak Farsi, I was wondering what the difference between "to" and "shoma" is. Do they both mean "You" or is one singular and the other plural?

Usually "to" means you, but its more informal and personal,. "Shoma" is more formal and you say that to elders as well as strangers if you are trying to be polite.

Lol I understand what you mean, the language she speaks at home is Iranian Koine (a dialect of Assyrian with Iranian words). Me, I've never heard of the word "Ashboskhahnah" but I do say "Mudbakh". Lol I always thought "Jdeelah" meant to touch something sharp but I guess that somehow has a connotation to Ice. That hard g sound in "Gdeelah" you would pronounce as "Qdeela" i.e. "iraQ" in assyrian haha thats the thing I love about our alphabet, it contains letters that most westerners aren't quite used to (like KH, Q, 'A, the hard DT, AY, H, S). That reminds me, do you know how to use their number substitutes?
For I.e.
"Eye" = Ana = 3Ana
"X-Ray" = She'a = She2a
"Devil" = Satana = 9a6ana
"Cold" = Qartha = 8artha
"Eat" = Khool = 5ool
"Mountains" = Tooraneh = 6ooraneh

In Turkish it became Umit and it is for boys and girls.

Thank you Slama for your answers and for having an easy name ;-) Salma I can write pretty well. And I am. really sorry for your sister and your father. My boyfriend also died las year. It is hard to accept, but I the end, the pain will disapear and you will only keep the good things. And I believe that people exist as long as we remeber them. If they exist in your mind, they can influence your life, therefore they exist in real life. And think that, for every creature that is born, another one has to die... or viceversa, for every person that dieas, a new creature is born. So, live is just like a coin trew to the air, were death and life are the two faces of the coin. As long as the coin is moving, it will keep it equilibrium by changing from one face to the other.
But of course it is difficul to accept young people diying... we are not mentally prepared for this. But, we have to. You have here a brand new bunch of new friends form all around the planet :-) At least I speak form myself. if there is anything you or anyone else in this forum need, just ask. We are here to help.
