New member here. A western guy insists to know the meaning of this verse but the point with mystic eastern poems is they are not easily translatable or at least thats not my job! I'm afraid I make it shallow and reduce it's literal/symbolic values!So I need your help to translate this Persian poem by Hafez of Shiraz.

Baba taher was one of mystic poets, almost all of them would choose a nickname that they would use in their poems when they would refer to themselves, in Persian it is called “ takhalos” . like “shams” and "khamosh" for rumi . Baba taher called himself oryan , and yes literally it means bare, naked. But in mysticism
It means someone who has detached himself from earthy possessions , that the more you free yourself and your mind of this world, easier you can recognize the truth and follow it. Mystic poets use metaphors like: the lighter your burden, the higher you can rise.

You are the one that has got such beautiful eyes.
You are the one that has got such beautiful black hair.
And then you ask me why am I so madly in love? How can I help loving such beauty?

and yes translation is rather difficult but i will do my best ;-D

Well it needs some introduction as to the meaning of “navai” that has been repeated several times in the poem and is actually the name of poem too.
“nay” is a vary ancient eastern musical instrument that is also called “wind flute” , because it is made of reed or cane and music that comes out of it, is only made by movement of lips and the strength of breath and movements of fingers on its 6 or 7 holes.
Rumi however was a mystic poet, and lots of words in its poems are symbolical, including “nay”.
Ney in rumi poems refers to human being. Because the sound of nay could be rather mournful, its music in mysticism means the laments of a lover that has been separated from its true love.
And “navai” refers to sound of nay. This poem is addressed to beloved, so here “navai” is referred to beloved and poet is calling and addressing his beloved, and saying : listen to the sound of reed how it complains of separation

نوایی نوایی نوایی نوایی
همه باوفایند تو گل بی وفایی ===

listen to the sound of reed, how it complains of separation
….everyone is faithful but, O flower! you are unfaithful.

Your love has dwelled in depth of my heart, with the same beauty and grace that Laily perched upon the saddle. ( here it is referred to love story of laily majnoon, that part of story that laily is traveling toward Mecca for haj and majnoon travels beside her caravan all the way on foot.)

به دنبال محمل سبکتر قدم زن
مبادا غباری به محمل نشیند ===

Follow the caravan with lighter steps, if you step so heavily, dust would rise from your steps.
(in the path of love do not haste, do not be impatient or you will offend the beloved. be gentle and patient.)

زبامی که برخاست مشکل نشیند ===

Do not hurt my heart because my heart is like a wild and free bird that if it flies, will not return easily.

What a wonderful place is the land of love, because there peasant is equal with the king.
(in the path of love, earthy things lose their value and all are equal.)

if a thorn wound your foot, I can easily remedy it. But tell me what to do with the thorn that has damaged my heart? How to heal my wounded heart?

(I can not tolerate separation from you) I will follow your caravan with tearful eyes. I will cry in such a way that my tears would make the path so muddy that your caravan would have to stop.

خوشا کاروانی که شب را طی کرد
دم صبح اول به منزل نشیند ===

Happy is that caravan that has passed the hardship of night, so at dawn it could be at its destination.
( happy is that lover that has tolerated all the hardship and pains in the path of love, because at the end there is happiness of union waiting for him.)

چي بگم، هر چي بگم فايده نداره === I have nothing else to say, talking would be useless.

غمِ عالم توي قلبم جا گرفته === the sorrow of the whole world has dwelled in my heart.

كسي كه زندگشو باخته تو نيستي === the one that lost all of his life, is not you.

اون منم، تنهاترين تنهاي دنيا === that one is me. I am the one that is loneliest person in the whole world.
