I really want to go to those countries too!! Its funny you're starting off with darja though, its very different to most arabic, and it has lots of french words, most beginners start with egyptian to be honest!
Ya salam! Then I must talk to you in shaami so that you dont forget it And you in turn can teach me dziri
You're very welcome to this forum! Its great to have you aboard!!
Loool American? Then you're going to have to forgive my British sense of humour and spelling
I'm still pretty much a beginner with Darija (and most Arabic... ) I did study fus7a for years, but none of that stayed with me and I've forgotten a lot. So I've been trying to learn darija, a language people actually speak
honestly, I was going to go try to learn shaami instead, but ended up going to Morocco last year and loved it. when i got back, I got to take Algerian (al hamdu lilah) and now I'm trying to keep up with it until I can get back to North Africa.
and to answer your question, I'm not from anywhere except America. my grandparents were from Italy and Denmark, but I have none of that culture. just an English speaking North American :|
I've only been to Syria and Morocco I am determined to go to Algeria, Tunis, Lebanon and Palestine, someday soon insha allah.
And thanks to you and ELEEF for being so welcoming
Nah its fine no worries, its just so different from other arabic dialects, (I can understand most, shaami, egyptian, iraqi, khaliji etc) but come north african I'm like haha.
I want to learn darja too! So its great I've found a fellow partner Larosa opened a learning maghreb thread for me on ATL, see if you can find it
You've forgotten shaami? allah ysam7ak, as-hal shi ilshaami!! wow lucky guy, how many arabic countries have you been too??
yeah, sorry about all the Algerian lol, it's really all I can type in
So yeah, my university has a fus7a program, and I took that for like 4 years. But then last year, we got a Fulbright student from Algeria so I got to study darija until she had to go back.
but hey I can try to type in shaami too I spent one summer in dimashq, but I've forgotten most of it by now!
