No, noise is sounds, only you can decide whether it's disturbing or not.
Something which scares one person does not scare another so to call music "noise" unless it is completely white noise (hissing and crackling, like radio static) is completely redundant and a little ignorant.

People who call rock/metal/punk "noise" tend to be people who don't understand it and are calling it because they fear it.


And before people spark off saying I'm aggressive, read the above post and realise this:

I didn't say it wasn't a music genre - Noise is industrial music without the live band - I said noise isn't music and I was correct.


But most people who don't understand rock or metal or punk call it "noise" because they don't wish to hear what they don't understand.

Without sounding like some kind of old timer, I've been into rock and metal and alternative and never heard of "noise" except when people are describing hardcore punk or thrash metal and then it was derogatory.

I assume you call it "noise" because you find it disturbing and/or your ears can't stand it. So we can't generalise it as noise, since there are people who really enjoy that kind of music. ;-)
