Disclaimer: The accurate translation of some sentences would be "Farewell/Salute to you O ...", but I omit that "you O/ O you" phrase. I've done this to make the translation more tangible in English.
سلام آخر
Salâm e Âkhar
The Last Salutation
سلام ای غروب غریبانه دل
Salâm ey ghoroobeh gharibâneh del
Salute to the solitary sunset of heart
سلام ای طلوع سحرگاه رفتن
Salâm ey toloo e sahargâheh raftan
Salute to the dawn of departure
سلام ای غم لحظه های جدایی
Salâm ey ghameh lahzeh hâyeh jodâyi
Salute to the sorrow of separation hours
خداحافظ ای شعر شبهای روشن
Khodâhâfez ey shereh shab hâyeh roshan
Farewell to the poems of moonlit nights *
خداحافظ ای شعر شبهای روشن
Khodâhâfez ey shereh shab hâyeh roshan
Farewell to the poems of moonlit nights
خداحافظ ای قصه عاشقانه
Khodâhâfez ey ghesseh âsheghâneh
Farewell to the love story
خداحافظ ای آبی روشن عشق
Khodâhâfez ey âbiyeh roshaneh eshgh
Farewell to the bright blueness of love **
خداحافظ ای عطر شعر شبانه
Khodâhâfez ey atreh shereh shabâneh
Farewell to the scent of nocturnal poem *
خداحافظ ای همنشین همیشه
Khodâhâfez ey hamneshineh hamisheh
Farewell to the perpetual companion
خداحافظ ای داغ بر دل نشسته
Khodâhâfez ey dâgheh bar del neshasteh
Farewell to the scar laid on the heart
تو تنها نمی مانی ای مانده بی من
Tow tanhâ nemimâni ey mândeh bi man
You will not be alone, O my survivor (of this love) who will not have me anymore
تو را می سپارم به دلهای خسته
Tow râ misepâram beh del hâyeh khasteh
I will bestow you upon the weary hearts
تو را می سپارم به مینای مهتاب
Tow râ misepâram beh minâyeh mahtâb
I will bestow you upon the light of the moonlight
تو را می سپارم به دامان دریا
Tow râ misepâram beh dâmâneh daryâ
I will bestow you upon the (gentle) hands of the sea
اگر شب نشینم اگر شب شکسته
Agar shab neshinam, agar shab shekasteh
Even if I am a nocturnal (creature) or an insomniac
تو را می سپارم به رویای فردا
Tow râ misepâram beh royâyeh fardâ
I will bestow you upon the (beautiful) dream of tomorrow
به شب می سپارم تو را تا نسوزد
Beh shab misepâram tow râ tâ nasoozad
I will bestow you upon the night for it will not burn (you) ***
به دل می سپارم تو را تا نمیرد
Beh del misepâram tow râ tâ namirad
I will bestow you upon the soul for it will not pass away ^
اگر چشمه واژه از غم نخشکد
Agar cheshmeh vajeh az gham nakhoshkad
Unless the spring of words would dry out because of mourning
اگر روزگار این صدا را نگیرد
Agar roozgâr in sedâ râ nagirad
Unless the twist of fate would take this voice (of mine) away
خداحافظ ای برگ و بار دل من
Khodâhâfez ey barg o bâreh deleh man
Farewell to the bliss of my heart
خداحافظ ای سایه سار همیشه
Khodâhâfez ey sâyeh sâreh hamisheh
Farewell to the everlasting soothing
اگر سبز رفتی اگر زرد ماندم
Agar sabz rafti, agar zard mândam
If you become green (again), if I remain yellow (forever) ^^
خداحافظ ای نوبهار همیشه
Khodâhâfez ey nobahâreh hamishe
Farewell to the evergreen spring

* Reading and Singing poems in the moonlit nights are considered as a very amorous deed in Persian culture.
** In Persian culture, blue and green are the colours of peace and happiness
*** Because the night is colder than the day and is a symbol of tranquility in Persian culture.
^ Soul is eternal unlike the body.
^^ The poet depicts the lover and the beloved as leaves. The beloved is evergreen but the lover is withered.

To have a friend is a bliss.
To have a Persian friend is an amazing bliss.
To have a Persian friend who is a poet is awesome.
To have a Persian friend who is a poet and understands your soul so completely is ... divine!
Thank you so much for your translation of this spectacular song, Azizam!
Thank you for sharing your amazing soul and talent with me!
But most of all thank you for your friendship and understanding!
Dooset daram, Baradaram!

I keep visiting this thread every now and then and I still can't find words to describe the haunting beauty of this song.
I love it so very much.
With all my heart and soul.
It's just perfect in my opinion.
Bijan, for this song alone I will be your debtor forever!
Thanks again and again for translating this song for me.

Thank you Pawel, your beautiful words have made my day.
What should I say?***The translations have been done by Bijan Kardouni AKA veryclever1980*** -
I visit this thread too with gladness
Unlike Pawel though I refrain from the word "perfect" as it doesnot leave any room for improvement
even for the most skillfill translators/ interpreters
Therefore, my dearest owl, Bijanam, may you rather continue improving your wonderfull work and yet stay as admirably humble as you have always been.
It is that part of your character which gives you the skills to deliver such interpretations! -
skilful:rolleyes:
Oh, dear.....
I wrote skillfill instead of skilful
-
Here you go again...
I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that the word "perfect" referred to the song, dear Amaryn...
But I should (gladly) admit that the translation is perfect, too.
And the sole fact that one translation is perfect doesn't close any doors imo - quite on the contrary, it sets the standards very high for those translations that might come next and so it actually OPENS room for further developments and does not close them.Last edited by Paul Orhan; 05-12-2011 at 03:22 PM.

I'll help you, if you don't mind
that was an ambiguous answer, Bijan, and I shan't oppose: it is perfect -
this is so sad
