666999= shast o shesh hezar nohsad o navad o noh

Yes, Hermes is right, I thought that your 4, 5 and 6 were different form the standar arabic numbers

Which numbers do you use at the end?

Hola Laura,

Iranian cinema is very rich and varied and it is usually compared to Italian Neorealism. In my opinion, iranian cinema is a distinct cinematic language that belongs to it's own genre. It uses humanistic and philosophical themes very creatively, it's truly a majestic form of visual poetry.

For beginners, the movies that I recommend are: "The Color of Paradise" (Rang-e khoda) and "Children of Heaven" (Bacheha-Ye aseman) by director Majid Majidi. Also "The White Balloon" and "Crimson Gold" are excellent as is any other movie by Jafar Panahi.

I also recommend "A Taste of Cherry " and "Ten" by Abbas Kiarostami. (Someone told me that both of these are banned in Iran but I'm not sure if that's true)
I hope this helps you get started. Please let me know which movie you get. I'd love to hear your opinions.

By the way, how did you become interested in the persian language?
Im really curious.

Hasta luego, nueva amiga,

David.

Default Bi vafa / Unfaithful by Faramarz Aslani

midooni del asrie --- do you know the heart is captive?
asire ta bemire --- It's captive until death
midooni bedoone to delam aroom nagire --- do you know my heart won't get rest without you?
midooni del tange to? --- do you know the heart is sad for you? ...
nemoode ahange to --- and it wants to go to you?
vali bihoode joyad, basi bihoode poyad --- but he(the heart) searchs vainly, he travels vainly

be man bego bivafa --- tell me, O unfaithful...
hala yare ke hasti? --- now you are whose companion?
khazane omram rasid --- my life's autumn arrived
nobahare ke hasti --- you are whose spring?
mikham beram dor dora --- I want to go far far away
delam taghat nadare --- my heart can't endure
daste ghame to dare rozamo mishomare --- your grief's hand is counting my days

_____

you can translate this song in 2 moods for youself .
midooni del asire --- do you know the heart is capative / you know that the deart is capative
or

Hola Ecilqua , thanks for the inquiry. This whole learning Farsi thing started when I became a very close friend with a coworker. She recently came from Afghanistan where farsi is their language also. I would hear her talk all the time. I was invited to her home and was intrigued by her customs. I started learning using pimsleur cd's and found I wanted to know more. Especially when she didnt give the same answers to the questions I asked that the lessons did. (how embarrassing) I spent months looking for somehow to learn and found a wonderful Iranian woman who used to teach in Tehran and was willing to teach me. She convinced me that if I really wanted to learn I had to also read and write. Boy what did I get myself into!? Well I wound up learning much about Iran. I am taking the summer break from it now, but plan to continue this Fall (September here)I cant wait for one day to be fluent in Farsi.

Bonjour Hermes I learned french in High school but never spoke it since. Sorry but I never thought I would use it and I am no Lance Armstrong (Is he a cheat?) I would love to see Paris. And yes none of my friends (except my new friends on this forum)know that I have begun this adventure into persian language.. It is not exactly the most popular language here..you cant find the music..you cant find text for learning and literature is typically 2 or three (ketabs) books at a library.

Urakan...David...Thats the D in my middle name..yeah!

Pauly...I have close Italian friend we call Pauly.

Mehdi Thanks for the numbers lesson

Question for Vanda. I like many types of music..from heavy metal hard rock to orchestral classical...but if starting to listen to Iranian or Persian music, what is considered cool! or good music? Is there a top 40 list of popular songs. Is it classified into groups like dance etc..? I dont have a taste yet because I haven't heard enough. Plus the songs that the girls like or the "laugh that may be cute" may not be so cute for a guy.

Default hello

I like Persian, as they say: sweet to hear, tough to learn!!!
but for starters [because I love English as well] I want to know who's this guy or what is the name of the song? can anybody help me pleeeaaaaaaaaaase???
4shared - free file sharing and storage - share folder - who's the singer
It was a 3gp file but I've converted it into mp3 so the quality is low. I really love to have the complete version of this song.
and I have a request from VANDI can you translate this song for me? I think the singer is Haide.
4shared - free file sharing and storage - share folder - Haideh
and one question from the spanish girl!!! I'm crazy about the song NO VOLVERE by gipsy kings it's a long time I'm searching for a complete english translation with keys to correct pronouncing but I haven't found such a thing yet! can you help? maybe sb can translate it into Persian later! It would be fun I guess!

thanks in advance

Hello Everyone!

I came across this forum by accident and have been following it with interest for a few weeks now. Several months ago I met a fantastic guy from Iran who has changed my life and my outlook in more ways than he could ever know...that is how I came to find out a lot about Iran, and become interested in finding out more.

He has introduced me to the music of the country, both old and new, and because I wanted to understand the songs he gave me more....I did some research and here I am in this forum.

The translations here are fantastic and have made the songs come alive! It is great understanding the meaning of them, although I find Persian such a beautiful and romantic language that I loved to listen to them without understanding the words anyway, just for the lovely sound.

I would like to learn Farsi and also go to Iran, maybe next year....I think I have fallen in love with the place! It will depend on visas and things, though...could be difficult.

The people in this forum are fantastic and it's really great how we can teach each other about our different cultures and languages through this medium.

Vanda, Salam! I have a small request for you please, if I may: You know the Hafez quote in your signature: Hargez namirad, anke delash zendeh shod be eshgh - "never dieth that one, whose heart is alive with love"? ....well, please could you give me the Persian text for this quote? I would really like to write it in Persian on a gift I give to my friend when he returns to Iran next month ( I will be sad when this happens..... :-( ), and I want to do it perfectly. I could try to work it out myself but I don't want it to be full of mistakes. I am still new to Farsi and onyl know a few words, mainly from songs/from my friend/from this forum.

The gift will be a painting I have made inspired by Hafez's poetry (similar to one of the pieces of artwork from the website Hafiz Life & Poetry @ HafizOnLove.com - حافـظ شیرازی) and I want to write the quote in Persian script at the bottom of the canvas.

You will make my day if you can do this for me!

Thankyou very much, keep up the good work everyone and I will keep reading this wonderful forum......

For now, so long everyone,

Hazel, in England xxx

Vandi, Nemishe is one of my favorite songs of the moment. And you know, everytime that I listen to that song (practically, everyday) I remember you.

You know, I also miss here in Madrid people with whom I could share this liking about Persia... But I dont have. You all should come here one day.

I will read the ret of the post and will answer acordingly. I was just too excited for this song and had to answer my shirin Vanda at once :-)

It was a 3gp file but I've converted it into mp3 so the quality is low. I really love to have the complete version of this song.
Do you mean this?

It would be fun I guess!
Well, I dont know this song, but I can search for it. Gipsy Kings are french from Spanish origin, and sometimes their Spanish is simple not Spanish, impossible to understand. But, *** can I correct your pronunciation? where are you from?

And, last, I dont know why in my previous post it appears "*** can I correct...". Of course I mean "how can I...".
