So, here I am.

Firts regarding the verb to smile. The infinitive is a zâmbi.

Verbs in Romanian fall in four classes

1. verbs ending in -a
exemple: a pleca - to leave
2. verbs ending in -ea
exemple: a bea - to drink
3. verbs ending in -e
exemple: a scrie - to write
4. verbs ending in -i or -î
exemple: a iubi - to love a urî - to hate

The endings for each verb in the present tense could help you detect the infinitive and therefore it is easier to look up in the dictionary:

I am giving you the forms of the verbs I used as examples, in the present tense. I won't use the pronoun, as the verb has a different ending for each person.

I have to tell you that in Romanian many verbs behave differently even inside one class. Then when you put them in past tense they change again, so learning them requires a lot of work. But what I gave you above should help you identify and even try to use some verbs correctly once you know in which class they belong and how they should end for each person.

Now regarding verbal constructions that you may encounter in songs

The infinitive in Romanian is formed from a + verb : a iubi


The conjunctive is formed from să + present tense : să iubeşti


In english both of them are translated with the infinitive: to love

Most likely in songs you'll meet the conjunctive because the infinitive is regarded as being too "cold".

This is the lesson for tonight. This thing with the verbs I wanted to clarify a little because once you start understanding them, things become a little bit more clear

Ohhh, yes, that could be a problem.

î and â are one and the same. It's only the graphics that differs. A few years ago, our Academy decided to come back to the writing with â instead of î. But â is to be found only in the middle of words. If this sound is the first or the last letter then it is written î.

So, your dictionary most certainly writes the sound only as î.

Yes, Dya you're right my dictiorany has only î. But I think I caugt the difference:
îghaţată - mâine - întâlnim

and now I have some questions

1.what is infinitive of words: gandesc, trezesc, privesc, intalnesc
2.'Mi-a fost dor...' is is a past tense, what is a present

Maybe later it comes sth more to my head...

And I pay attention to one thing - the song lyrics we transate don't have Romanian letters as î ş ţ ă â that's why is more difficult for me as a beginner. ;(
