I think what I'm having truble with are expressions and phrases that can't be translated word for word, ha ha.

And another small correction. The word friend does have gender in Romanian, so when you adress a man you say prietenul meu but when you address a woman you say prietena mea .

Also there's a vocative form that can only be used with the masculine form:
Prietene! < -- >Friend!
