This is Sarah Kirkland singing a song that Curt Collins and I Co-Wrote with her called Different Air. Sarah is in the studio this week recording a full-band version of this song for her next CD but like most Songwriters, I seem to always prefer these simple Guitar / Vocals to the “Full Studio Productions.”

This recording was done at M.E.G Studios here in Nashville. I played one guitar track and then Sarah added the vocal track. I didn’t sweeten this track with additional guitar parts like I normally do because I was trying to duplicate our “Live Sound.” We’ve been performing Different Air around Nashville at the different songwriter venues and that Live Acoustic Guitar / Vocal sound is what Nashville is all about for songwriters.

Different Air

Verse:
I left Memphis in the middle of the night
Didn't dare wake him just to lose another fight
Took all my pride and half of my clothes
He didn’t deserve a good bye note

Pre-Chorus:
Drivin’ 80 miles an hour with a headlight gone hope I got enough gas to make it ‘till dawn
My whole life’s stuffed in the trunk of this car me and this Chevy’s never been this far

Chorus:
One mile at a time past another exit sign
By another off ramp with Carolina on my mind
I need somewhere new to say my old prayers
I’ll drive as long as it takes to breathe different air

Verse:
Got my cell phones off and the radio on
‘Cause I know he’ll be callin’ when he sees I’m gone
This time he won’t talk me into turnin’ around
I know where I’m goin’ and I ain’t breakin’ down

Pre-Chorus:
I’ve been savin’ my tips for the last three weeks plannin’ every night ‘fore I fell asleep
I’ve thought this through a thousand times I’m takin’ back my life and leavin’ him behind

Chorus:
One mile at a time past another exit sign
By another off ramp with Carolina on my mind
I need somewhere new to say my old prayers
I’ll drive as long as it takes to breathe different air

Bridge:
I stayed on I 40 East all the way to the sea
I got out of my car and I walked on the beach
Where I can finally breathe, just breathe, just breathe

Chorus:
One mile at a time past another exit sign
By another off ramp with Carolina on my mind
I found somewhere new to say my same old prayers
I drove as long as it took to breathe different air
