Kasnim... ali dobro
I also never thought smitten has anything to do with smite but ... seems it's past participle of smite
pogoditi =
1. (tr. and intr.) to hit; ~ metu = to hit the target; ~ u centar = to hit the bull's-eye; (basketball) on je pogađao ko sa svakog odstojanja = he hit the basket from every distance
2. (tr.) to affect, influence, touch; to upset; mene je pogodila vaa iskrenost = I was touched by your sincerity; to pogađa nae interese = that affects our interests; poplava je pogodila ovu pokrajinu = a (the) flood struck this region
3. (intr.) to guess
You can be "pogodjena ljubavlju" but it sort of has a negative connotation
savladati (savladana) ; the enemy is defeated = neprijatelj je savladan;
savladati strah = to overcome one's fear
ubuzeti
obuzela me ljubav = a feeling of love came over me;
obuzeta mislima, ne primecujem nista oko sebe = occupied by my thoughts, I don't notice anything around me
obuzet panikom = overcome by panic
spopasti
ta te je sad spopalo? what's come over you? ljubav me je spopala
odjednom me je spopala ljubav (prema...) = suddenly I felt love (for...);
Zaljubljena.. I guess you can say "izgubljena (lost)" but as you can see, when lacking a context, it can mean anything. Though.. I suppose smitten is the same
I actually have no idea what would be the best equivalent for smitten. If I search for its synonyms
infatuated = zaludjen, zanesen (you can be "zaludjen/zanesen ljubavlju")
charmed = ocaran, opcinjen (ljubavlju)
Another dictionary says: smitten = pometen, zanesen
And, is there a synonym for "zaljubljen"? Zatreskan? Not really because zatreskan (u nekog) is to have a crush on smb. Maybe Izgubiti glavu (za nekim).
Kad ga (je) vidim, potpuno izgubim glavu (napusti me razum, oduzmem se), which means, I'm in loooooove
zaljubiti se C (pf.) zaljubljivati se D (imp.) = to fall in love; ~ u nekoga = to fall in love with smb.; ~ jedno u drugo = to fall in love with each other; *~ do uiju (preko glave, ludo, smrtno) = to fall madly (head over heels) in love
