Why I'm Here

The moon's fightin' it's way through the Spanish Moss tonight
And it sparkles on your gravestone when the light hits it right

I never told a livin' soul what I saw when I was fourteen
How I was scared to death when he covered your mouth so he could hide your screams
Jeb was twenty three raised mean and loved the taste of other's fears
I'm beggin' for forgiveness 'Liza that’s one reason why I'm here

When I turned eighteen I did just what a man's supposed to do
I got my daddy's Ka-Bar then I watched Jebs every move
I caught up with him down by Black River where he liked to drink his beer
I yelled, "I saw what you did to 'Liza, so you know why I'm here"

Warm blood ran down my arms as I watched evil drain from his eyes
The sheriff didn't bother to look too hard Hell I wasn't even tryin' to hide
You remember that day they found his body, no one even shed a tear
So 'Liza now you know what I did, that's another reason why I'm here
