I did not write this. I'm just posting it for a friend who's too shy or unassuming to know how great this is. IMHO.
The title is the only thing that's mine, taken from one of the poem's lines.
Butterfly Summer
Head spinning, cold heart sinking,
tripping on shadows among the unliving,
cursing the fear of what I could not hear,
the sound of you, so distant...so near
Desperation my sole motivation,
painless death a final salvation
Screaming silent into night so black,
not even echoes could find their way back.
Rise up or die on shattered dreams,
what other choices were there to redeem?
On someone's prayer I reached the wall,
straining to hear your own anguished call...
A thousand yesterdays, forever ago,
butterfly summers replaced winter's snow
I was waiting for you the day you came,
waiting to hear you whisper my name.
Knowing I've walked the last lonely mile,
what is the price for every new smile,
every warm tear that caresses my cheek,
each touch of your hand that still leaves me weak?
Don't count it as cost that I can never repay,
Allow my heart to find to its own way.
Just let me be the one that you need...
The last love story you'll ever read.
