Thanks Duffy - please note that I added a second singer to the question: Αδερφοί Σινογιάννη.

    (We probably cross-posted.)

What about him also? Is he considered a major singer of original rebetika?

In fact they are two siblings (αδερφοί or αδελφοί = brothers) Christos and Costas Sinogiannis.
There were good singers, but they became not very famous.

Thanks - I didn't realize that αδελφοί had an alternative permissible spelling αδερφοί. That's why I mistook Αδερφοί for the first name of just one singer.

Οι Κουτσαβάκηδες έλεγαν: "αδρεφέ μου" και ο Ζαμπέτας λέει: χάσαμε τ' αρεοπλάνο (αεροπλάνο)!

Zambetas was making fun of the way they pronounced the word? Is that it?

    Or have I misunderstood you?

If I've misunderstood you, please take a moment to explain ... sorry.

Duffy - if you look higher-up in this thread, you'll see that I asked you a question about the singer Αντύπας, and you said you didn't want to answer the question.

Now that I have become aware of the Greek hero Marinos Antipas, I have to ask you whether some Greeks don't like the singer
Αντύπας because they don't think he should have taken the name of a hero for his "stage-name"?

Or is there some other reason that you don't want to talk about?

The Rebel called Marinos Antipas (surname)
The singer called Antipas Mazloumidis (surname)

All the Greeks knows the second, but few of them knows Marinos.
I do not want to talk about him because I do not hear his songs and I do not like the music of this kind.

In March 1910 at the area Kileler, farmers had rised with led by M. Antipas. The revolution was drowned in blood. This Savvopoulos song , is dedicated to those who died there.

    Sad but true ...
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

Hey Amethystos - since you're the "resident expert" on "fun" around here, please listen to this clip from around 1:26 where Ζαμπέτας starts doing the "la-la's" ....

    Το φιλοσόφησα πολύ - 1975
    Στίχοι: Ξενοφώντας Φιλέρης
    Μουσική: Γιώργος Ζαμπέτας

Is he "kidding around" (making a little joke) - is he imitating the sound of someone "going crazy", like the line in the song:

Και το `χω ρίξει στην τρελή

(Duffy, please feel free to answer also - if you feel like it ....)

The song says that happiness is a difficult concept, somekind of philosophy· so the Zambetas says: "I thought it very much, so - from now on - I'll treat like crazy".

Το έχω ρίξει στην τρελή means that I'm not concern about anything and I treat like crazies do, that haven't mind (to think and warrywart).

I am back to defend a lady's honor, Duffy,

    This lady:

    Νατάσα Θεοδωρίδου

Earlier in this thread, you made an unfavorable comment about her.

But I think she does a respectable job of being INoffensive. I mean, maybe her arrangements are "plastic", but I think they're good plastic - they're not bad plastic.

Anyway, I guess we can agree to disagree about her arrangements.
