    Tekiyeh Gah
    Someone to Rely on

Ey hameh ârâmesham az tow, parishânat nabinam
O (you), the wellspring of my tranquillity, how could I see you perplexed?
Chon shab-e khâkestari sar dar garibânat nabinam
How could I see you forlorn as a gloomy night?

Ey tow dar cheshmân-e man, yek panjereh labkhand-e shâdi
O you, in my eyes (you are) the one who is like a window to merry smiles
Hamcho abr-e soogvâr, in gooneh geryânat nabinam
How could I see you so tearful as a mournful (dark) cloud?

Ey por az shogh-e rahâyi, rafteh tâ ojeh setâreh
O (you), filled with the zeal of liberation, (you are the one) who has wanted to reach the stars
Dar miyân-e koocheh hâ, oftân o khizânat nabinam
How could I see you listless, wandering through the lanes?

    Morghak-e eshghat kojâ shod shoor-e âvâz-e ghashangat
O lovebird, why did your passion for chanting fade away?
Dar ghafas chon ghalb-e khod har lahzeh nâlânat nabinam
How could I see you endlessly weeping as my own heart?

Tekiyeh kon bar shâneh am ey shâkheyeh niloofarinam
O (you) my lily, (rely on me and) put your head on my shoulders
Tâ gham-e bi tekiyeh gâhi râ be cheshmânat nabinam
How could I see the sorrow in your eyes, for the absence of someone to rely on?

Ghesseh deltangiyat râ khoob-e man bogzâr o bogzar
My compassionate one, leave your tale of sadness and let yourself go
Geryeh daryacheh hâ râ tâ beh dâmânat nabinam
How could I see you (as a gracious sea) obsessed with the griefs of lakes (and rivers)? *

Kashki ghesmat koni gham hâ-ye khod râ bâ del-e man
I wish you would share your sorrows with my own heart
Tâ keh seyl-e ashk râ zin bish mehmânat nabinam
How could I see the flow of tears running across your face?

Tekiyeh kon bar shâneh am ey shâkheyeh niloofarinam
O (you) my lily, (rely on me and) put your head on my shoulders
Tâ gham-e bi tekiyeh gâhi râ be cheshmânat nabinam
How could I see the sorrow in your eyes, for the absence of someone to rely on?

Tekiyeh kon bar shâneh am ey shâkheyeh niloofarinam
O (you) my lily, (rely on me and) put your head on my shoulders
Tâ gham-e bi tekiyeh gâhi râ be cheshmânat nabinam
How could I see the sorrow in your eyes, for the absence of someone to rely on?

    * In this line the poet analogises the beloved to a gracious sea. Those lakes (and rivers) which are connected to the sea, signify the sorrows and pains of the others. It means that the beloved is so kind that she is easily affected by the sorrows and pains of people around her.

    Owles,

This song is another precious gem that you've introduced to us.

    Kheyli mamnoon!

Maybe I'm wrong here, but I also see this song as very emotional political statement hidden behind a veil of a love song, where the beloved is - in fact - Iran.
But if I'm wrong about it - please correct me asap.

However, no matter what interpretation keys one chooses to open this song with it's a hauntingly beautiful piece of art.

    Tashakor x 1390

Thank you for your beautiful words dear, you're the one who helps in this complicated task.

    OMG,
The way you interpret our songs really amazes me. Yes, you're absolutely right but "how could you find it"?

In countries where people have to suffer so much , art , literature and music are often a means to read between the lines,
a green highway through inexplicable inhumanity and thus give them hope for a better future.
    Insallah!

    So true, Amaryn!
The art can help nations survive.
The art can help individuals survive, too.
    A truly God's gift!
