Smile Solved: Instrumental piece, about 1979

My Mom used to listen to WLQR in Toledo; they've changed ownership and format since, so asking for a playlist won't work. They almost never announced the track or artist; music, a few ads and station I.D. The format was then called "Easy Listening". I've scoured "Adult Contemporary" and Instrumental charts from 1970 to 1982 and come up empty handed. I'm guessing I first heard it around 1979. I think I last heard it in 1991 in a hotel lobby in Dubai.

This is an instrumental piece, with an acoustic piano on lead, an electronic drum machine, and an "airy" sounding synthesizer background. The piano seems to perform variations on two simple melodies.

Artists I know that are close, but not "it", include Vangelis and Frank Mills.

If I had any talent and/or a musical keyboard I could slowly work it out and find one of the online applications that can "listen and identify"; alas, I have neither.

From a critical perspective I should listen to the Weather Report of George Winston, but this is a memory thing for me; like comfort food.

    Thanks much for any help!

    Hi,

the best would be if you just sing or hum so we can hear the melody.

Just do it, then we can get further.

Please put it up here. Would be great.

    Greetings.

    Here's my terrible renditions:
    Both melodies hummed:

First melody on MiniPiano with a QWERTY keyboard:

I said in my first post I had no talent; now I've proven it!

Thanks much for any help in identifying the original piece.

    Mumbles, you nailed it.

Congratulations for hearing it through my tragic interpretation!
