I can not promise my actions will never cause you pain

Or that I will always be there when your tears come down like rain

And I can not promise that all your dreams will come true

Or that my mistakes will hurt just me and not you



Because I will never make you a promise that I can not keep

No matter how much it tears me up inside

I know if I did you would never forgive me

I'd fall apart without you and so that's why…



I can promise that I will do my best

To be a friend when you're in need

To help you through life's every test

No matter the cost, though I must bleed.



I dare not promise to be there in your darkest hour

To be your beacon of light before the shadows devour

Nor can I swear to be there when you need me most

When life's trials give you cause to lose all hope.
