    (Chorus)
We're lost in the moonlit field,
    our hands clasping for warmth.
How long can this go on?
Oh, when will they see that something is wrong?

    (Verse 1)
I awoke on a dawn dimmed morning.
The clouds were around to say goodbye.
But in the end I got up and out of bed.
The first day that I didn't tell a lie.

Those trees on the side of the streets.
Their branches of hope and despair,
they make me want to curl up in a ball.
They treat me but not with care.

    (Chorus x 1)

    (Verse 2)
I awake to see that I'm not who I want to be.
Not one who doesn't always desire,
what they want in this world for free.
Nothing's free in the life of a liar.

You stumbled on me like a broken step.
Blind and deaf and possibly dumb.
    You were naive.
Now you can't undo what's been done.

    (Bridge)
    We fell into that hole,
in the middle of a no mans nowhere.
    Gasping for the vines,
    and the tombstones of death.

    Climbing a way up.

    Getting out on top.

    I left,
    you,
    behind.

    (Outro)
We're lost in the moonlit field,
    our hands clasping for warmth.
    It went on long enough,
but not long enough for me.

Another marvel of simplicity, just meaning that it isn't very long or fancy but it packs a huge punch. I've read it 4 or 5 times and every time it gets better, and even more personal. Very very nice!
There is no glamour in sudden death, and nobody ever wins a war.
