Bateli you could be as correct as anyone because to begin with, the word "colitas" in the lyrics refers to the flowering buds of a marijuana plant. But I'll offer even more of my own interpretation by highlighting the more revealing aspects:

    Hotel California

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
    (desert highway, probably very isolated)
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw shimmering light
(only a large/major/gaudy establishment or something very isolated would "shimmer" for his attention)
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

    There she stood in the doorway;
(a "welcome"? ... not your ordinary hotel by any stretch of the imagination)
    I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell'
    (...big goings-on at this place...)

Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
(an odd reference to something unique, something very exclusive or very private)
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...
(a large party of some sort? .. not typical at all for a hotel in the USA, other than maybe an average dancing club off to the side of the residual areas)

    Welcome to the Hotel California
(a grand name, and the location of Hollywood ... a center of decadence in film and music...)
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
    Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (Any time of year)
    You can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes Benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
(dancing in a courtyard; extremely rare and exclusive in the USA)
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the Captain,
    'Please bring me my wine'
(as if he's a frequent visitor)
He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'
(the 'Captain' of the hotel or restaurant really knows his wine ... wealth)
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
    Just to hear them say...

    Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
    Such a lovely face
    (repetitive ... mesmerizing? hypnotic?)
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
    Bring your alibis
(suggests a degree of embarrassment about being here ... the decadence?)

    Mirrors on the ceiling,
    (yes! the decadence!!)
    The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
    And in the master's chambers,
    They gathered for the feast

(seriously exclusive event, of the "decadent" variety)
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast
(the beast of their individual+collective self-indulgences)

    Last thing I remember
    (obviously a result of a drunken+drugged stupor )
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before

    'Relax,' said the night man,
    'We are programmed to receive.
    (receive and entrap...)
You can check out any time you like,
    But you can never leave!
obviously because the Hotel's enticements of luxury and self-gratification are so strong, and the will of those who go there is so weak)

    ~ ~ ~

The only complication in all of it is that this is not something that can happen just anywhere: Whoever goes to the Hotel California must have some above-average means, money or power or connections; and that of itself is the entrapment.

This song is perfect! I love it!

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
    From the mountains of faith
    To the river so deep

I must be lookin' for something
    Something sacred i lost
    But the river is wide
And it's too hard to cross
even though I know the river is wide

I walk down every evening and stand on the shore
I try to cross to the opposite side
So I can finally find what I've been looking for

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
    Through the valley of fear
    To a river so deep

    I've been searching for something
    Taken out of my soul
    Something I'd never lose
    Something somebody stole

I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is I've been looking for

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
    Through the jungle of doubt
    To the river so deep

I know I'm searching for something
    Something so undefined
That it can only be seen
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night

I’m not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That is runnin' through the promised land

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
    Through the desert of truth
    To the river so deep

We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
    We're all carried along
    By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

Today it's a sad day in Portugal. An actor and singer, of the most friendly and always with good vibe, always happy, so humble, died in a horrible car accident. Angélico

His last work. "You can leave the world behind..."
