Fresh from Idan's Youtube channel ...the official video clip of the new single ...Run towards the light (rats el ha'or) ENJOY
[XIQ4MWkuEL8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIQ4MWkuEL8&feature=digest[/video]
Today I returned to the room
To stare (observe) at the ceiling
How it is, unlike us,
Still remained a little clean
Because I wanted to forget a little
And to throw it far away
In another failing attempt
To turn bitter to sweet
Another one became clever
So he prefers to be quiet
Among all these clever (people)
I so feel like shouting
Night is falling again
Drops to the street
Among thousands of beggars
Lost souls
When night is falling again
Falls to the pit
I too reach out my hand now
asking to return
when darkness is taking over me
I run towards the light
Today I returned to the room
sweeping the floor
and started to spill water
and scrub the soul
and I closed the door
waiting for closing* time
between us only God knows
what will be decided* for me at the end
Another one became clever
So he prefers to be quiet
Among all these clever (people)
I so feel like shouting
(Ne'ilah = closing= The last and most important prayer of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year on which Jews fast for 25 hours and pray for atonement and redemption of their sins. According to tradition after the Ne'ilah prayer God is deciding on the fate of the people according to their asking friends for forgiveness and their prayers)

בתאל את מתרגמת מעולה מאיפה השגת את האנגלית שלך
Bateli, can you explain a little more about the Beni Elbaz video? I understand that he won a contest called "Hall of Fame". What is the "Hall of Fame" in Israel? Is is something like "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame", where you get elected by music experts, or is the winner chosen by popular vote?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame
I know that Beni Elbaz is one of the pioneers of Musica Mizrahit, but that he later turned to religious music. Is he performing secular music again? I also know his son Gad Elbaz, who is a "dati" singer as well, but who seems more like a pop star in terms of popularity (especially among the girls, I imagine!).

Anyway, kol ha-kavod, Beni sings beautifully and he deserves the accolades!

Hi Eva
This show has nothing to do with the original Hall of Fame.
It's not a musemum..nothing is archived and no experts committee is gathered to decide on who is worth being part of it.
Mr. Cooperman (producer of Big brother - Israel and some other reality shows) has "borrowed" that term to name this reality show.
They collected a bunch of old timers like Arik Sinai, Ruchama Raz, Adam, Avi Toledano , Aviva Avidan and some forgotten artists like Alona Daniel (2 or 3 hits) and Igi Vaksman (can't recall a single hit of hers) and added to that mix the great vocalists such as Beni Elbaz , Ilana Avital and Avi Bitter (sorry about the spelling ) .
They put them in a house, the actual house of the Big Brother show, and filmed them 16 hours a day.
The format is very similiar to Kochav Nolad minus the auditions and """""comdedy""""""" of Tsvika Hadar.
I don't know if they'll do it again. It will be very difficult to recreate the dramas of this season.
Arik Sinai got married on a live broadcast.
Avi Bitter was forcefully taken out of the show .
To avoid any law suit they then rearranged and edited the whole Bitter exit.
They gave him air time, allowed him to give a speech before one of the little contests,
interviewed him several times highlighting the funny and entertaining side of his stay there
leaving out the disrespct he's shown to the other artists.
In his defense I can say they were mean to him and down right racists.
If I were him, I'd do exactly the same.
He was nice to them up to the point where he saw (we all did)
that they were conspiring to take him out.
At the beginning of the show, the artists were also the judges and gave their friends/competitors
scores so a lot was based on friendships and alliances instead of a professional assessment.
Later they brought 5 people from the music industry and that relieved the tension.
Nothing was left for chance. These well orchestarted conflicts were aimed at increasing the rating of the show.
Anyway...what's done is done and we got a very deserving winner.
A happy day for all Mizrachi fans and for Beni Elbaz who had been ill treated in the past.
The only thing that clouds my joy is knowing Mr. Cooperman is now a few millions richer .....
again the Ashkenazim are living off of Mizrachi talent.
If you have more questions Eva...feel free

Thanks for the explanation! Now the I understand the whole set up of "Hall of Fame"...it is a bit like Big Brother (which we also have in Sweden), but with veteran artists!
On the other hand, if being on this show will bring recognition and media exposure to fine singers like Beni Elbaz or Aviva Avidan, I guess it's OK. Of course, the ones who make the big money are always the producers!
As for Avi Biter, I think he has both his looks and his style against him. I don't know if you agree, but to me he is "heavy" Mizrahi and as such I think he will never be accepted by the mainstream....not even the Mizrahi/Mediterranean mainstream! In Greece there is a category of artists that are regarded as "skiladika" singers (after the kind of third-rate bouzouki joints where they usually perform and because of their style). Now, everyone has their own opinion concerning what "skiladika" really is-but if Avi Biter were a Greek, he would probably be put in that category!
I actually think these labels are not only about the quality of the music or the singing, but also about social attitudes. For example, when Manolis Angelopoulos gave a concert at the Lykavittos theater, in I think 1983 (which was transmitted 'live' on Greek television) there was an outcry in the press....a "Yiftos" (Gypsy) had turned the ancient Lykavittos theater into a "skiladiko" ("dog house")! Of course, nowadays Angelopoulos is considered one of the greatest singers ever, there are books and TV documentaries about him and so on. So, as you wrote yourself, attitudes change....Here is a clip from that classic concert-I remember watching it myself, together with half of Greece it seemed!

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed for Liron Ramati on Saturday!

(I promise is the last for now...)
Thank you for rooting for Liron
Biter is not a good suggestion to spell Avi's name
I'll PM you the reason
We can go with Bieter ....
As for attitudes and tastes in music ....the only good thing
about a free market is that the crowd is the one
that's crowning the kings of music and not some snobbish music editors on the radio or TV.
Let's hope that doesn't change.
As much as I appreciate Liron's talent I have a suspicion he won't win.
My oldest brother (not the musician) doesn't like Liron and when I asked
him as to why he wasn't able to pinpoint a specific reason.
After a long and deep reflection on his reply I reached a conclusion
that there is an element of self-hate among members of Mizrachi culture.
I suggested that theory to him and he has yet to reply.
Let's see what he'll say to that after the finale.....
Now that his favorite singer Lidor Sultan is not one of the finalists...
I wonder if he'll root for Hagit or the frightening David Lavi who
reminds me a famous figure in history born on my birthday.
