    Hiya Rose,

Thanks for the clip, the singing was great...and I loved the body language of the judges! I don't think I've heard such superlatives in a first audition, apart from Susan Boyle's. Just out of curiosity, which "edah" do you think Guy comes from?

You're right, of course! The interesting thing about most Israelis I know is that their "edah" means quite a lot to them-it's like a part of their heritage, although they all feel 100% Israeli. For example, I have a good Israeli friend here in Stockholm who is quite proud of her Sephardic-Moroccan roots, although she has told me that her mother felt so looked down upon when she arrived in Israel that she regretted not having emigrated to Canada instead!

BTW, I think that Barzilay is a Sephardic name, that's why I asked...so my guess is that the guy (or Guy!) might have his roots in North Africa. Anyway, he sings like a dream...hope he will do good in the competition.

    Hi guys

I woke up with an urge to sum up ......so ..

    New Year's holiday - check
    Yom Kippur - check
Sukkoth -------------ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-----------------------Steve?! Will you do us the honors by explaining this holiday?

Then we have the month of Heshvan in which there is no holiday ....so we call it MarHeshvan - Mar means both bitter and Mr.
Bitter describes the empty manner of the month and Mr. is a kind of compensation to it, a way to add respect to a holidayless month.

That was for all you trivia lovers ....
Kali ebdomada se olous ...............Have a good week everyone

I'm still waiting for Amedi's first album to be released !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Tzur Mi-shelo" or "Los Bilbilicos" (and Dalaras' "Ta prota logia"!) played by one of Greece's best clarinet ("klarino") players, Stavros Pazarentzis, from a famous family of Gypsy musicians:

I suspect that these musicians heard the melody from the Turkish version, called "Yastayim". It's not in Hebrew, but I love the singer, hope you don't mind!

    Bat-El

Sukkot (Hebrew: סוכות or סֻכּוֹת, sukkōt, Feast of Booths, Feast of Tabernacles) is a Biblical holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei (late September to late October). It is one of the three biblically mandated festivals Shalosh regalim on which Jews were commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. (Note: The Hebrew calendar is a lunar calendar. The months are 28 days long and leap year has a whole month added. That is why the holiday dates change so much every year)

The holiday lasts seven days. The first day is a sabbath-like yom tov (holiday) when work is forbidden.... The Hebrew word sukkōt is the plural of sukkah, "booth or tabernacle", which is a walled structure covered with schach (plant material such as tree branches or bamboo shoots). The sukkah is intended as a reminiscence of the type of fragile dwellings in which the Israelites dwelt during their 40 years of travel in the desert after the Exodus from slavery in Egypt.

I love him, too, dear Eva, so as far as I'm concerned you can post as much of him as you like, (pity, though, he's never tried any Hebrew song - he'd sound great in it! )
