Default Nina Kraljic's Lighthouse for Croatia

Croatia is a country which decided to send a proper song.
    Thank you Zagreb!

There are less than five countries that have not presented their song, let's hope there's a winner hiding amongst them.
Cause I believe that this will be an AWFUL year for ESC.

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

Default Flashback! Probably the best ever performance of a rock song in ESC

Mor ve Ötesi - Deli in 2008

    As for Turkey in ESC.....

TRT announced on 3 November that Turkey would not participate, adding their discontent at the introduction of a mixed voting system to the contest and the pre-qualification of the Big Five for the final. source:wikipedia

Default Bulgaria's "If Love Was A Crime" by Poli Genova

Well it seems that the last four songs had another descent entry to say the least.
Cause to my ears Bulgaria's song is one of the VERY FEW worthy to listen to songs of this years contest.

And since this year's contest doesn't have a BIG favorite, I can say that a "Big Five" country may win .....

Default Flashback! Carola's "Captured by a stormwind"

It's less than a week till the 1st semi, it's time to remember some good oldie....

Back on 1991 Italy (which some say that had won the year before only cause it had threatened to withdraw from the contest) delivered a TERRIBLE production of the contest, both music and lighting/shooting were awful and that's something anyone may see if he search on youtube for a 1991 ESC vid.

Exclamation 1st serious contender for 2018 is Roma with Francesco Gabbani's "Occidentali's Karma"

Song's is talking about the "fate of the western human".
    Absolute political lyrics.
Meaningful lyrics in a deeply satirical song.
After hearing most of Sanremo's songs I think Italians have chosen wisely for their winner.

Let's see if you avoid shaking to the rhythm till the end

Warning: Be prepared to hit repeat

Default Salvador Sobral's "Amar pelos dois" for Portugal

When I first watched this I wasn't informed to close my eyes instead of watching him singing....

So the first time "Try to listen to him" and afterwards you can watch him singing.

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.

but life they retained in their own keeping"

Doesn't it sound like a Disney song? Gotta love this...
I just don't think it will be as good as it should be. It's not commercial. At least, we send a really good song this year, and we can be proud of it

    Here goes the translation:

If someday someone asks about me
Tell them, I lived to love you
    Before you, I only existed
Tired and with nothing to give

    My darling, hear my prayers
I ask you to come back, to want me again
I know, that you don't love alone
Maybe, step by step, you can learn to

If your hear don't want to surrender
Don't want to feel passion, don't want to suffer
Without making plans for what it comes
My heart, can love for both

    Thanks for the translation Pat!

Orchestration and voice reminds 1920's more than anything!
It's a song that needs a careful and proper designing of stage presentation.
If it goes as is then I doubt even about the qualification to the final.
But when you succeed in focusing viewer's attention to the sound itself, then magic reveals....

    Gabbani is something different than most of the other participants the last years;
we're lucky that he accepted to sing in the esc cause we had the opportunity to focus on him.
"Occidentali's Karma" is a 4 weeks song and has already more than 50 million views via it's many vids.
It has already parody vids created... The acceptance is enormous, have a look at the comments.

Since the last years, viewers' televoting is being deteriorated (and I'm in a POLITE MOOD to use these words), I really don't care about the winning order but for the knowledge that such a contest provides me. Gabbani is one of this year's profits for me.

Only Emma's entry was poor. The rest of the entries, Italy has been one of my favorites.

I agree with you. We need to change the show on stage... but I don't think they will change much. Only clothes, I guess. I don't care anyway. It is a good song. At least we don't embarrass ourselves

Making him sit and thus minimizing his "peculiar" movements while singing may be an idea.

    We must remember that
    1) Most viewers will be prepared to watch a show and NOT to listen to a song. Unfortunately.
    2) Most viewers will not be familiar with his way of singing.

    That's the point nowdays!
It's not about winning or losing since the last 2 years results were fixed.
We have to grab the opportunity and know new artists, new ideas.

And certainly anyone should not be afraid of embarrassement cause of a participation to esc.

A nation's cultural idiosyncrasy can't be measured by just a song....
But one song may be too special to leave it behind....

    Here's a story:
I admire Hungary's cultural characteristics and I'm sure they can send a MASTERPIECE to participate, but unfortunately I can't remember a good Hungarian entry the last 10 years....
I only remember this canceled entry, Alexander Rybak may had lost his prize if Tompos had sung back then...

My hamble opinion is that, Tompos, Hungary and European audience, we have all lost of her decision.
    Participating harms noone.

Exclamation Azerbaijan's "Skeletons" an excellent presentation

Last night we witnessed nothing new rather than this ......
We already know the two favorites and we wait for the 2nd semi.
