Default Italian to English - Lusingame - Sergio Bruni?

    Hi,
Can someone try to translate this beautiful song "Lusingame"

    forse sarra' 'stu cielo
    chino 'e stelle
    maria mari'...
    forse sarranno 'st'uocchie accussi'
    bbelle,
    maria mari'!
    forse e' ll'ammore
    ca mm'he mise 'int''o core,
    ma i' nun ce credo
    ca tu mme vuo' lassa'!
    tu nun 'o ssaje
    ca mme staje dint''e vvene
    si te ne vaje
    nun pozzo cchiu' campa'...
    lusingame n'ato ppoco
    fallo stuta' 'stu ffuoco
    ca dint''o core
    m'he appicciato tu
    si te nne vaje
'o ssaje ca mme ne moro
    lusingame n'ato ppoco
    ca senza 'st'uocchie tuoje
    nun campo cchiu'...
    (Instrumental)
    lusingame n'ato ppoco
    fallo stuta' 'stu ffuoco
    ca dint''o core
    m'he appicciato tu
    si te nne vaje
'o ssaje ca mme ne moro
    lusingame n'ato ppoco
    ca senza 'st'uocchie tuoje
    nun campo cchiu'...

forse sarra' 'stu cielo chino 'e stelle/ maybe it's because of this starry sky
    maria mari'...
forse sarranno 'st'uocchie accussi' bbelle,/ maybe it's your enchanting eyes
    maria mari'!
    forse e' ll'ammore ca mm'he mise 'int''o core,/ maybe it's the love I feel within my heart
ma i' nun ce credo/ but i cannot believe
ca tu mme vuo' lassa'!/ that you want to leave me
    tu nun 'o ssaje/ you don't know
ca mme staje dint''e vvene/ that you're in my veins
si te ne vaje/ if you leave
nun pozzo cchiu' campa'.../ then i cannot live anymore
lusingame n'ato ppoco/ delude me a little longer
fallo stuta' 'stu ffuoco/ wait for this fire to die
ca dint''o core m'he appicciato tu/ this fire that you lighted in my heart
si te nne vaje/ if you leave
'o ssaje ca mme ne moro/ you know i shall die
lusingame n'ato ppoco/ delude me a little more
ca senza 'st'uocchie tuoje/ you know without your eyes
nun campo cchiu'.../ i cannot live
lusingame n'ato ppoco/ delude me a little longer
fallo stuta' 'stu ffuoco/ wait for this fire to die
ca dint''o core m'he appicciato tu/ this fire that you lighted in my heart
si te nne vaje/ if you leave
'o ssaje ca mme ne moro/ you know i shall die
lusingame n'ato ppoco/ delude me a little more
ca senza 'st'uocchie tuoje/ you know without your eyes
nun campo cchiu'.../ i cannot live
"-Please tell me you're going to appeal to my humanity..."
"-Actually, I'm planning to threaten you."

"Well, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Evil plots don't just make themselves, you know!"

    You're welcome!
It's because it's neapolitan dialect, from the italian verb "lusingare" (flatter, delude, deceive).
"-Please tell me you're going to appeal to my humanity..."
"-Actually, I'm planning to threaten you."

"Well, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Evil plots don't just make themselves, you know!"

    thank you Ligeia

Regarding the translation of the Neapolitan dialect, my wife and I have gone through the usual channels--to no avail.

Having noted that, please consider the following two songs:

    Guaglione…

    Staje sempe ccá, 'mpuntato ccá,
    'mmiez'a 'sta via,
nun mange cchiù, nun duorme cchiù
    che pecundría!

Gué piccerí' che vène a dí
    'sta gelusia?
Tu vuó' suffrí, tu vuó' murí,
    chi to ffá fá...

    Curre 'mbraccio addu mammá,
    nun fá 'o scemo piccerí'...
    dille tutta veritá
    ca mammá te pò capí...

    E passe e spasse sott'a stu barcone,
    ma tu si' guaglione...
    Tu nun canusce 'e ffemmene,
    si' ancora accussí
    giovane!

    Tu si' guaglione!...
    Che t'hê miso 'ncapa?
    va' a ghiucá 'o pallone...
    Che vònno dí sti llacreme?...
    Vatté', nun mme fá ridere!

    Curre 'mbraccio addu mammá,
    nun fá 'o scemo piccerí'...
    Dille tutta 'a veritá
    ca mammá te pò capí...!

    Nun 'e ppittá, nun 'allisciá
    sti mustacciélle...
Nun cerca a te, nun só' pe' te
    chill'uocchie belle...
Nun 'a penzá, va' a pazziá
    cu 'e guagliunciélle...
    Nun t'avvelí,
    c'è tiempo oje ni',
    pe' te 'nguajá!

    Chi desidere 'e vasá,
    scordatélla, piccerí',
ca si 'o ddiceno a papá,
    chisá comme va a ferní...

    E passe e spasse sott'a stu barcone...
    ma tu si' guaglione...
    Tu nun canusce 'e ffemmene,
    si' ancora accussí
    giovane!

    Tu si' guaglione!...
    Che t'hê miso 'ncapa?
    va' a ghiucá 'o pallone...
    Che vònno dí sti llacreme?...
    Vatté', nun mme fá ridere!
    Chi desidere 'e vasá,
    scordatélla, piccerí',
ca si 'o ddiceno a papá,
    chisá comme va a ferní...

    Finale:

    Staje sempe ccá, 'mpuntato ccá,
    'mmiez'a 'sta via...
Nun mange cchiù, nun duorme cchiù...
    chi to ffá fá!..

    and:

    Catena…

    Nun mme vuó' bene?
E dimme, comme mmo ppuó' dí?
    Tu si' guagliona...
    Ll'ammore nun 'o ppuó' capí!
Ch'aggia fá, pe' me è destino...
Pe' st'uocchie belle tanto aggia suffrí?

    Pe' me tu si' catena...
    Pe' ll'ate si' Maria...
    Io perdo 'a vita mia,
    Maria! Marí', pe' te!

    Tu nun mme dice maje,
    maje na parola!...
    Dimme na vota sola:
    "Te voglio bene"
    e po' famme murí!

    Tu cante e ride...
    e mme turmiente 'a giuventù...
    Io mme ne moro,
ma sempe 'a stessa rieste tu!
    Mamma chiagne e, a tutte ll'ore,
mme dice: "Figlio, nun 'a penzá cchiù!"

    Pe' me tu si' catena...
    Pe' ll'ate si' Maria...
    Io perdo 'a vita mia,
    Maria! Marí', pe' te!

    Tu nun mme dice maje,
    maje na parola!...
    Dimme na vota sola:
    "Te voglio bene"
    e po' famme murí!

Ligeia: you most assuredly deserve to be compensated for your time and expertise--but how to achieve this?

    Thank you.

    Dean Taylor

"Once he hears to his heart's content, sails on, a wiser man.
We know all the pains that the Greeks and Trojans once endured
on the spreading plain of Troy when the gods willed it so—
all that comes to pass on the fertile earth, we know it all!" [Homer].

    Here's the first one:

    Guaglione…

Staje sempe ccá, 'mpuntato ccá,/ you're always here, insistently
'mmiez'a 'sta via,/ on this street

nun fá 'o scemo piccerí'.../ dont be foolish
dille tutta veritá/ tell her the whole truth
ca mammá te pò capí.../ she will understand you

E passe e spasse sott'a stu barcone,/ you pass by again and again under this balcony
ma tu si' guaglione.../ but you're a boy
Tu nun canusce 'e ffemmene,/ you don't know women
si' ancora accussí giovane!/ you're still so young

    Tu si' guaglione!.../ you're young
Che t'hê miso 'ncapa?/ what were you thinking?
va' a ghiucá 'o pallone.../ go play football (soccer)
Che vònno dí sti llacreme?.../ what are these tears for?
Vatté', nun mme fá ridere!/ go away, don't make me laugh

Curre 'mbraccio addu mammá,/ Run into mom's arms

Nun cerca a te, nun só' pe' te/ she doesnt seek you,
chill'uocchie belle.../ those beautiful eyes are not for you
Nun 'a penzá, va' a pazziá/ don't think about it, go to play
cu 'e guagliunciélle.../ with little girls
    Nun t'avvelí,/don't lose heart
c'è tiempo oje ni',/ there's plenty of time, child
pe' te 'nguajá!/ to get into trouble

Chi desidere 'e vasá,/ Forget about the one
scordatélla, piccerí',/ you wish to kiss, boy
ca si 'o ddiceno a papá,/ if someone would tell her father
chisá comme va a ferní.../ who knows how this will end

    Tu si' guaglione!.../ you're young

    Ligeia!

Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with singers, writers and lovers of the Italian dialect, Napolitano!

    E 'una bella cosa!

    Dean

By the way, the lyrics you translated for Dansole, Lusingame, have a final verse he omitted:

    II

Che fa si 'e vase tuoje ll'hê date a n'ato?...
    Maria, Marí'...
Io sóngo sempe 'o primmo 'nnammurato!...
    Maria, Marí'...

    Tu si' d''a mia,
    dimme chesta buscía,
    dimmélla ancora,
    però nun mme lassá...

    Tu nun 'o ssaje

Dean

You're welcome! Glad to have been helpful! Though I don't speak Neapolitan nor I listen to Neapolitan music I can understand it well, when it's not too "slangy"!

Che fa si 'e vase tuoje ll'hê date a n'ato?.../ what does it matter if you've kissed someone else
    Maria, Marí'...
Io sóngo sempe 'o primmo 'nnammurato!.../ I am still your first love
    Maria, Marí'...

    Tu si' d''a mia,/ you're mine
dimme chesta buscía,/ tell me this lie
    dimmélla ancora,/ say it again
però nun mme lassá.../ but don't leave me

    Tu nun 'o ssaje/ you don't know
ca mme staje dint''e vvéne.../ you're in my veins
Si te ne vaje,/ if you leave
nun pòzzo cchiù campá.../ i can't live anymore

Si te ne vaje,/ if you leave
'o ssaje ca mme ne moro.../ you know that i will die
Lusíngame n'atu ppoco/ delude me a little more
ca, senza st'uocchie tuoje,/ for without your eyes
nun campo cchiù!/ i cannot live
