    This is a traditional song:

    THis is Elvis presleys version:

    Can't you see I love you
    Please don't break my heart in two
    That's not hard to do
    'Cause I don't have a wooden heart

    And if you say goodbye
    Then I know that I would cry
    Maybe I would die
    'Cause I don't have a wooden heart

    There's no strings upon this love of mine
    It was always you from the start
    Treat me nice, treat me good
    Treat me like you really should
    'Cause I'm not made of wood
    And I don't have a wooden heart

    Muss i denn, muss i denn
    Zum Städtele hinaus
    Städtele hinaus
    Und du, mein Schatz, bleibst hier?

    Muss i denn, muss i denn
    Zum Städtele hinaus
    Städtele hinaus
    Und du, mein Schatz, bleibst hier?

    There's no strings upon this love of mine
    It was always you from the start
    Sei mir gut, sei mir gut
    Sei mir wie du wirklich sollst
    Wie du wirklich sollst
    'Cause I don't have a wooden heart

    These are the lyrics of the german traditional song:

    1. Muß i denn, muß i denn zum Städtele hinaus,
    und du, mein Schatz, bleibst hier?
    Wenn i komm, wenn i komm, wenn i wiedrum komm,
    kehr i ein mein Schatz bei dir.
    Kann i glei net allweil bei dir sein,
    han i doch mei Freud an dir;
    Wenn i komm, wenn i komm, wenn i wiedrum komm,
    kehr i ein mein Schatz bei dir.

    2. Wie du weinst, wie du weinst, daß i wandere muß,
    wie wenn d Lieb jetzt wär vorbei.
    Sind au drauß, sind au drauß der Mädele viel,
    lieber Schatz, i bleib dir treu.
    Denk du net, wenn i ein andere seh,
    no sei mein Lieb vorbei;
    sind au drauß, ...

    3. Übers Jahr, übers Jahr, wenn mer Träubele schneid,
    stell i hier mi wiedrum ein;
    bin i dann, bin i dann dein Schätzele noch,
    so soll die Hochzeit sein.
    Übers Jahr, do ist mei Zeit vorbei,
    do ghör i mein und dein;
    bin i dann, ...

    Muß i denn, muß i denn zum Städtele hinaus,
    When I have to leave the town,und du, mein Schatz, bleibst hier?
    you will have to stay stay hereWenn i komm, wenn i komm, wenn i wiedrum komm,
    when I come backkehr i ein mein Schatz bei dir.
    I will come to youKann i glei net allweil bei dir sein,
    I cannot always be with youhan i doch mei Freud an dir;
    though I enjoy it very muchWenn i komm, wenn i komm, wenn i wiedrum komm,
    when I come backkehr i ein mein Schatz bei dir.
    I come back to you

    2. Wie du weinst, wie du weinst, daß i wandere muß,
    Theway you cry because I have to gowie wenn d Lieb jetzt wär vorbei.
    seems as if love is over nowSind au drauß, sind au drauß der Mädele viel,
    but no matter how many girls are out therlieber Schatz, i bleib dir treu.
    I will be true to you
    Denk du net, wenn i ein andere seh,
    Don´t think that love is over when I see other girlsno sei mein Lieb vorbei;
    sind au drauß, Der Mädele viel, Mädele viel,
    Lieber Schatz, i bleib dir treu
    Even if there are a lot of girls, I will be true to you

    3. Übers Jahr, übers Jahr, wenn mer Träubele schneid,
    stell i hier mi wiedrum ein;
    If the time has come to bring in the wine harvest
    I will come back

    bin i dann, bin i dann dein Schätzele noch,
    so soll die Hochzeit sein.
    If I am still your sweatheart then,
    then we will marry

    Übers Jahr, do ist mei Zeit vorbei,
    do ghör i mein und dein;
    After a year my time is over
    and we belong together

    bin i dann, Dein Schätzele noch, Schätzele noch,
    So soll die Hochzeit sein
    If I am still your sweatheart then,
    we will marry
    .

    I hope you understand it. I think this song has its origin when young craftsman should go on the tramp to learn at many different manufacturers. This "tramp" usually was 1 to 3 years. and they were not allowed to come home during this time.

    Tahira, danke für die bayrische Liedtext.
    When you say "on the tramp" I would say "on the road".
    I think this really means when they leave on an apprenticeship.
    Gott zur Ehr, dem nächsten zur Wehr

    What if they gave a fire and nobody came.

    AH! Thank you feuersteve.
    I have also one small correction: the song's origin is "schwabisch" not "bayerisch". but it is not easy to find out.
