What Friends Are For

Friends; they’ve got your back with a knife bone deep
Cards are on the table and they’re playing for keeps
What you want, what you have, what you need they take it
Build up a ten foot wall and from inside they break it
Go looking for peace and they’ll bring you war
It seems these days that’s what friends are for

Kick them out the door and immediately lock it
But once you turn around there’s another hand in your pocket
Might as well just go and hand them your wallet
Because once they are done you’ll have lost more than your profit
Looks like friends are more like enemies now
Supposed to pick you up when you’re down
Make you smile when you frown
Now they’re just after your crown
Before we used to be blood brothers
Swore it in front of our mothers
I always had your back and you had mine
Now you’re crossing the line
One step at a time
Like this is a victimless crime
Rock bottom is not as low as it seems
I hit lower in my dreams
Alone now trapped with my screams
Trying to breathe through the seams
The world’s coming down on me with both feet
It looks like blood but really its trust I excrete

People say that friends are a must
That you need someone you can trust
But it is hard to readjust
There is no bond that won’t bust
Friendships may be made of iron but they’re still subject to rust
Even stone over time will return to the dust
Stone will at least stand for you when you fall
It won’t force you to crawl or betray you at all
Friends will cheat you in this game
They’ll soil your name and feed you to the flame
After all it’s all just ashes to ashes
So burn the garbage, friends will show you what real trash is
