    Default Hala Bala? Anyone?

I found a demo CD being used in a stereo shop that had several cuts on it I loved
but have not been able to find since. The stereo shop owner said the CD belonged
to a Georgian engineer who was in Indianapolis for a trade show and he had left the
CD with the shop to use for demos.

The song sounds like Ska and a friend called it Turkish ska, of course it might be
Georgian but the lyrics start out "Hey Eddie, Hala Bala?" another singer answers
"Hey Mike(?) mana ka-ra" they go back and forth like this then a croud shouts
"shish bakshish marrakesh hash shish kebab, shish kebab"

I have been looking for this for several years only once finding a message
containing the crowd-shouted lyrics, I wrote the fellow but he never responded.

A band name would certainly be a start then I will try to find a place to order any
    CD's they have.

    Thanks in advance.

    Default Hala Bala Anyone?

Sort of with horns but with heavy bass guitar and heavily produced so I think they are
possibly a popular group. One friend of mine did say that the middle part of the song
    had a gypsy melody. Thanks.

Well, the examples I have given are gypsy music, so your friend is right.

How long ago did you find the CD?

    It's definitely not Turkish.
I've checked my id requests with Midomi, Tunatic, Picard, MusicIP.

I figured the answer to whether or not it was Turkish would come quickly, I heard the recorded CD
about 3 years ago and managed to get a copy. The disk was the traveling Engineer's car CD.

I could send someone a sample if it would help.

After the crowd shouts the two, Eddie and Mike (pronounced meegeh) sing As-Salāmu Alaykum back
and forth then there is a point in the middle of the song where the singing stops and it goes into an
instrumental with several fiddles that sounds like a Gypsy style.

You can find two songfiles at http://www.4shared.com/folder/-3fKNy_h/_online.html

One I am pretty sure is called Hala Bala and the other sounds mysterious so I called it
Mystery. I believe the same band did both.

If you do not know who did Hala Bala can someone please tell me what they are saying? They
seem to be singing about food. It's a fun song and very well recorded.

    Thanks

Hopefully you were able to download the songs. If you did would you describe the style of music as ska?

You win. I had been misspelling Halla Balla all along, thought they were singing in Arabic and so asking in the wrong places. I am having some trouble finding the one CD that has Halla-Balla on it titled Happiness Fame and Fortune but I certainly have a name now and so I have a place to start. Thanks!
