Red face Mylène Farmer - L'Histoire D'Une Fée

    Hi everyone,

I've tried to find the translations of this brill Mylène Farmer song (« L'Histoire D'Une Fée, C'est…») on the internet, but it still sounds a little funky to me. :S Maybe someone can be bothered to do some check on it, see if it's all correct? I mean, I reckon it takes some (native) French speaker who could make this translations somewhat more comprehensive? It would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Grand merci beaucoup in advance!!

    Lyrics/paroles

Trois p'tits tours et silence !
    C'est ça qui m'affecte
    Quand on m'aime, je danse
    Quand on veut j'apparais...
Trois p'tits tours et silence !
    J'suis pas en latex
    Quand on m'oublie, le sens
    De ma vie disparait
Faire un voeu ou bien deux
    Et puis fermer les yeux
    (je suis là)
    Pour celui et pour ceux
Qui n'ont pas froid au yeux
    (qui croient en moi)
Faire un souhait pour de vrai
    Et puis croire au mystère
    (tout est là)
    C'est un style, c'est facile
Quand on est Mélusine / Oh vite dépêche toi!

    Avant que tout s'éveille
    Attrapez-moi
Mais pas le bout des ailes
    Une fée c'est fragile parfois
    Avant que minuit ne vienne
    Attrapez-moi
Jeux de mains, jeux de M
    Emoi

    Trois p'tits tours et silence
    C'est ça qui me choque
    Quand ma peine est immense
    Je change l'or en toc
Trois p'tits tours de passe passe
    Moi j'en ai des stocks...
    Si ma baguette casse
Que le grand crick me croque

Faire un voeu ou bien deux
    Et puis fermer les yeux
    (je suis là)
    Pour celui et pour ceux
Qui n'ont pas froid aux yeux
    (qui croient en moi)
Faire un souhait pour de vrai
    Et puis croire au mystère
    (tout est là)
    C'est un style, c'est facile
Quand on est Mélusine/ Oh vite dépêche toi!

    Refrain I

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

    Refrain I

    Avant que tout s'éveille
    Attrapez-moi
    Et voir mes étincelles
Une fée c'est magique en soi
    Avant que minuit ne vienne
    Attrapez-moi
Jeux de mains, jeux de M
    Emoi

    Translations

    Three small turns and silence!
It is that which affects to me
when I am liked, I dance
    when one wants I appear...
    Three small turns and silence!
I am not out of latex
when I am forgotten, the direction
    of my desperate life
To make a wish or two
and then to close the eyes
    (I am there)
    for that and those
which do not have cold with the eyes
    (which believe in me)
to make a wish for truth
and then to believe in the mystery
    (all is there)
it is a style, it is easy
when one is Mélusine / Oh quickly catch you!

    Before everyone wakes up
    Catch me
But not the end of the wings
    a fairy is fragile sometimes
    Before midnight does not come
    Catch me
Play with hands, play with Mr.
    Emoi

    Three small turns and silence
It is that which shocks me
    When my sorrow is immense
    I change gold into fake
Three small turns of master key passes
Me I have stocks of them...
    If my bread breaks
That the large cricket crunches me

To make a wish or two
and then to close the eyes
    (I am there)
    for that and those
which do not have cold with the eyes
    (which believe in me)
to make a wish for truth
and then to believe in the mystery
    (all is there)
it is a style, it is easy
when one is Mélusine / Oh quickly catch you!

    Chorus I

Lundi, Mardi, Mercredi, Jeudi, Vendredi, Samedi, Dimanche
    (I couldn't resist -- SM)

    Chorus I

    Before everyone wakes up
    Catch me
    And to see my sparks
a fairy it is magic in oneself
    Before midnight does not come
    Catch me

I made a few corrections and alternate suggestions, they're in bold writing.

    Three small turns and silence!
It is that which affects me
when I am liked (or loved), I dance
    when one wants I appear...
    Three small turns and silence!
    I am not in latex
when I am forgotten, the sense
    of my life disappears

To make a wish or two
and then to close the eyes
    (I am there)
for that (or "the one (person)")and those
which do not have cold in the eyes
    (which believe in me)
to make a wish for truth
and then (or "also") to believe in the mystery
    (all is there)
it is a style, it is easy
when one is Mélusine / Oh quickly hurry up!

    Before everyone wakes up
    Catch me
But not the end of the wings
    a fairy is fragile sometimes
Before midnight comes (there's a double negation here but it should be translated as a simple negation)
    Catch me
    (A) Play of hands, play with Mr. (M can stand for Monsieur (Mister) but maybe it could mean something else, for example Melusine, as above)
Emoi (if these lyrics are an unofficial transcript, maybe she actually sings "et moi", that would mean "and me")

    Three small turns and silence
It is that which shocks me
    When my sorrow is immense
    I change gold into fake
    Three small illusionist tricks
Me I have stocks of them...
If my bread ("wand" is a more likely translation) breaks
That the large cricket crunches me

To make a wish or two
and then to close the eyes
    (I am there)
    for that and those
which do not have cold with the eyes
    (which believe in me)
to make a wish for truth
and then to believe in the mystery
    (all is there)
it is a style, it is easy
when one is Mélusine / Oh quickly hurry up

    Chorus I

Lundi, Mardi, Mercredi, Jeudi, Vendredi, Samedi, Dimanche
    (I couldn't resist -- SM)

    Chorus I

    Before everyone wakes up
    Catch me
    And to see my sparks
a fairy it is magic in oneself (or "a fairy is magic itself")
    Before midnight comes
    Catch me
Play with hands, play with Mr.
    Emoi (see above)

Albruna, grand merci once again!!! You really helped out, BIG TIME!!! But Mylène Farmer isn't really making this translating thing easier for people like you, is she? :P
    Anyhow, it is REALLY appreciated!

Well... at least her lyrics have a topic. I find lyrics that are completely random, filled with unfitting metaphors or just plain stupid much harder to translate because you can't predict what the next sentence will be about. Mylène Farmer's playing with words is relaxing compared to that

Well, I guess you do have a point, yes (with Mylène Farmer, it mostly is in the 'darker corners' ).
But still… I mean, if I can try to translate a Dutch song into English, and it almost doesn't really matter which song that is; I can almost translate it as accurate as to the point (there are some exeptions, yes, but most of the Dutch-speaking people will not even slightly understand them, like De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig). :P

But from what I know about French language (then again, I really am a rookie!) it's that it's all is in the entire song/format, and not so much about the words. Which, for me, sounds rather hard to understand.

OK, weird question, perhaps, but are the French songs of Mylène Farmer harder to translate than the French songs of Kate Ryan, or Shy'm, or Najoua Belyzel?

It's just that when there's more than one meaning to one word it's hard to decide which translation is the right one if the lyrics as a whole make no sense. Take the word "baguette" above - it can mean bread or it can mean wand, and sometimes songs have lyrics which are just all over the place and you don't know what the artist is trying to say (if they are traying to say anything at all), so you don't know which translation to choose.

I don't know if it's true that French songs are about the song as a whole, I rarely listen to French music actually...

Hi everyone ! I'm french and I translated a minute ago this song...
The translation made by Albruna is quite good but i added few things.

Maybe nobody cares anymore... I did it for the glory! (Or not xD)

Spin round three times and silence!
    It's what moves me
when someone love me, I dance
    whenever anybody wants, I appear...
Spin round three times and silence!
I am not made of latex
when someone forgets me, the sense
    of my life disappear

    Make a wish or two
    and then close your eyes
    (I am there)
for the one and the ones
    that are not affread
    (and believe in me)
    Make a wish for real
and then believe in the mystery
    (It's so simple)
    it's a style, it's easy
Since i'm Mélusine / Oh hurry up, fast ! (Mélusine is the name of a fairy in celtic mythology)

    Before everything awakes
    Catch me
But not at the end of the wings
    a fairy is fragile... sometimes
    Before midnight come
    Catch me
Hand games, M. games (play on words, an expression in french, "jeux de main, jeux de vilain", that can be translated "it will end with tears")
    Stir

Spin round three times and silence!
    It's what's causing me offence
    When my sorrow is immense
    I change gold into fake
    Three little conjuring tricks
    I've got plenty of them...
    Let devil bite me
    If my magic wand breaks

    Make a wish or two
    and then close your eyes
    (I am there)
    for the ones
    that are not affread
    (and believe in me)
    Make a wish for real
and then believe in the mystery
    (It's so simple)
    it's a style, it's easy

    (I couldn't resist -- SM)

    Chorus I

    Before everything awakes
    Catch me
    And see my sparks
a fairy is magic by itself
    Before midnight comes
    Catch me
    Hand games, M. games
    Stir

If you ask about the meaning of those lyrics... I always wondered if Mylène thought about her career when she wrote those lyrics... It's an artist quite "magical", a little stranged, not really appreciated by the "public" (in fact, everybody say that fans of Mylène are only gays... I know, it's really stupid xD)... For me, it's a fairy and those lyrics reflects exactly the character.

Both Evens Alexandra and Albruna: merci mille fois!!!! It's people like you who make a difference! Whether for the fun, the glory, or just because; some people (like moi) are happy when they are handed a translation of a song that they <3 to hear, but just don't quite understand because of the language. With people like you, language is just a barrier that should not even matter anymore!

Well, from what I know now, is that Mylène always seems to sing about the 4 S's in life: S&M, Sex, Sadness and some sort of Suicide-ish thing. You can safely put your money on any of the 4 objects (if not all four) to be in any of her songs. Combine it with her voice (sometimes she sounds like an angel, at other moments one might reckon she just should not have reached the notes she tried to reach), her whole appearance… she's just one of a kind.

Btw, the fact that Mylène isn't really 'accepted by the public': she's known by a wider audience, and has sold at least more than 15 million records (trust me: I can't see me reaching a number like that ). Again: she is someone who seems to march to the beat of your own drum. :.)
