It's more about knowing stuff, not intelligence... "I am that" is a (good) book, discussions with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. Can't say I get all of it, but it's definitely worth a read. It's also one possible translation of the name YHWH (Yahweh) gives for himself when Moses asks him who he is, "אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה, ʾehyeh ʾašer ʾehyeh".

I scared people away? Come on, they're just busy with all this Yule stuff.

Good first two lines, not a huge fan of the third.

    darkness falls
in the sea of light -
    my abode

    Too cliche?
Fine fine keep your pants on, I scared them.

    My abode
    Lasting haven upon
    rocky shore

Let's say the third line did not deliver on the sweet promises of the second. I said it's Yule who scared them away, all right?

    rocky shore
    cliffs of rage now rest
    while we smile

    5-7-5 Haiku . . .

    Ride to meet the shore
    Emerald queens of the sea
    Lay pearl eggs in sand

Love that last line, Frankie. A real pearl!

    lay pearl eggs in sand
lay, my love, and let them grow
    days of joy shall hatch

    5-7-5 haiku . . .

    Days of joy shall hatch
    Dappled by sun and blossoms
    Soft, feathered bundles

Life - a leap of faith
    Tadpoles change, emerge from pond
    New locomotion

OI, I think I'm getting a better feel for haiku. Is it discernible to you, or not? Truth and consequences (that is, you say truth; I accept consequences!)

Yes, they certainly roll off your keyboard with greater ease. More flexibility, more openness, more experimenting with less Western ways to express yourself. Your syllable count is, as always, immaculate.

    new locomotion
    feet sprouting under my heart
    carrying me to you

Awwwww, I really like your last one.
(Also, thank you! I want to learn this art of haiku; it will make me learn effective words.)

    Carrying me to you
Winds of winter howl and lift
    Land soft in your arms

This format is so beautiful because we keep inspiring each other. I doubt I would've written my 'best' (the ones I like the most) haikus without this thread. So thank you (and Noor, and everyone else) I think your last one is your best to date, or at least the one I like the best.

    land soft in your arms
    future generations will
    love them, Mother Earth

I was so excited to respond to your haiku, that I failed to read your comment. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I do think using the more traditional 5-7-5 format helps; and I agree that we all are indeed helping each other. And tonight I feel much inspiration, playing off each others' haiku/senryu. I am so glad you set the thread on fire with this game!

    @Frankie #252-258 : such a sweet challenge!
@Noor and O.I: I like this game too. Indeed, it sharpens the mind- and the tongue
