Need help identifying artist

I'm looking for the name of the artist that sings a song that has the lyrics, "...then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues," and "...then you might know what it's like to have to choose." The song is about not judging people until you've "walked a mile in their shoes." It talks about a homeless man, a girl that has an abortion, and several other people and the decisions they had to make. I thought the song was by Lenny Kravitz, but I couldn't find it.
