I've tried to identify this 80s/early 90s song that I taped off the radio for years without success.

As far as I can make out, some of the lyrics are: "For years she has cried... She knows just what to say, here I go and have the final word. She relishes my pain..."

Bridge: "Don't waste all your time. Don't hide yourself away."

I've tried Shazam, Soundhound and Googled the lyrics without any luck. Can anyone help?

It sounds much like Midge Ure "She Cried"

It sounds *absolutely* nothing like it.

I agree, but in the louder parts, the singer truly has got some decent Bono/U2 flavor .

Me thinks the sample is somewhere from 15 - 20 % slow, enough to make it Bono's sister and a more natural sounding 80's high energy song.

    TENTATIVE (repetitions and finale ignored)

    ...just watching him
Do i go without a final word [pronounced wit-hout, German, Dutch?]
He, rarely shares my pain [I'm more of an optimist...]
Someone always ends up getting hurt

    {
    Burning desire
    Has fallen away
    For years we have tried
    I won't play that game
    } bis

    Don't waste all your time
    Don't hide yourself away
