SOLVED: 90s Early 2000 rock song

This has been bugging me for awhile and google isn't giving me anything relevant as a search result, so I'm guessing my lyrics are wrong.

This is a kinda soft-rock song I used to hear pretty often back in the early 2000s or late 1990s. I remembered this song while listening to the very ending of "City Hall" by Tenacious D, when Jack Black starts making up a song and begins singing "Malibu nights, malibu dreams" or something. The guitar into he plays before singing sounds very very similar to the song I'm thinking about. You have to skip to the very end of City Hall to hear this part, it isn't included in the main song.

The lyrics to the actual song are something like "and tell me why should I try (cry?)... why should I try (cry?)" and then later "and tell me and I'll be there, yeah I'll be there..."

Any help would be appreciated.
