    Default Jean Ferrat

Jean Ferrat stirred up quite a lot of emotions with this song, lyrics by Louis Aragon.

Born in 1930, died 2010, Jean Ferrat has interpreted many poems of Louis Aragon and Lorca
The very first poem of Aragon he put to music in 1956

    Much welcome to you Larosa!!

And how great is this song!

With this song there's a little anecdote connected: during my first trip to Paris not only did I want to see everything (impossible, especially if go there on a business trip) but I finally wanted to buy Dalida's CD that would include the song below. So one evening I went to this mega store at Champs Elysees and started browsing through hundreds of CDs. Every time I found the song it was written it was a duet with Alain Delon. I didn't remember it was a duet, so I was looking for Dalida only and didn't buy anything. Upon my coming back to Absurdia (aka Poland) I complained about it to my mother. She would burst into laughter and say: "But honey it WAS a duet with Delon, since the very beginning. How stupid of you!".

So next time I was in Paris I bought a double CD compilation of Dalida's gretest hits, titled "Les Annees Orlando" including the very duet and many, many more, inter alia the version of La Mamma I had already posted! I fell in love with the duet yet again! One thing is certain for me - this song is one of Alain Delon's best roles ever. The legend has it he came to the studio one evening to record his part. Having read his lyrics he damanded a glass of cognac. Having drunk it he recorded his part in one take. The following day he came back and demanded to be given a chance to differentiate the final exclamations of "Que tu es belle" because he wasn't happy with how they sounded (how Scorpionic of him!)

    Voila les resultats:

This is what I would call a very valuable CD! ^^

The synchronization of the both is perfect, and Alain Delon has the exact timber and tone of the man repeating the same paroles to each women... must be the cognac

About the Champ de Mars, it's to bad no one ever did a song on it, it's a very inspiring place though, if it wasn't always crowed like that. But there is a movie called Le promeneur du Champ de Mars talking about the last period of François Mitterand's life.

    Lol Larosa, soyez le bienvenue!

Here's Amalia Rodrigues singing in French ( her Italian interpretations of various songs are wellknown): I have always liked this one:

Among musicals one of my favorite is the French-Canadian musical Notre-Dame de Paris:

Notre-Dame de Paris - Bohémienne (Hélène Ségara)

I've always wondered if Guesch has finally found her Etienne.

I was obsessed by this song when it was released back then.

France Gall - Diego, libre dans sa tête (lyrics of Michel Berger)

    [6mngNHKGxxo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mngNHKGxxo[/video]

    Derrière les barreaux
    Behind the bars
    Pour quelques mots
    For a few words
    Qu'il pensait si fort
He was so strongly thinking of
    Dehors, dehors il fait chaud
    Outside, outside it is hot
    Des milliers d'oiseaux
    Thousands of birds
    S'envolent sans effort
    Fly off effortlessly

    Quel est ce pays
    Which country is this
    Où frappe la nuit
    Where strikes the night
La loi du plus fort ?
    Where might makes right?

    Diego, libre dans sa tête
    Diego, free in his mind
    Derrière sa fenêtre
    Behind his window
    S'endort peut-etre...
    Falls asleep, maybe...

Et moi qui danse ma vie
And me who danse my life
    Qui chante et qui rit
    Sing and laugh,
    Je pense à lui
    I'm thinking of him

    Diego, libre dans sa tête
    Diego, free in his mind
    Derrière sa fenêtre
    Behind his window
    Déjà mort peut-être...
    Already dead, maybe...
