Default Who sang this early 1970's pop/rock song?

I am at a loss as to the name of the song and artist from the early 1970's, whose lyrics I can only partially remember contain the following:
"Oh, please (baby) go all the way..Its been so long (been so long), being with you dear, baby I say please (baby) go all the way.."
I remember this song was played on AM radio stations, was sung by a male who had a lovely vocal range, and the song itself had some nice changes in it.
Also, the first ten seconds of this very song was featured in the movie, "Almost Famous". The scene featured Phillip Seymour Hoffman, while on the phone with the young journalist. Hoffman was playing this song on his record player, then lifted the needle up and replaced the above album with a completely different one. Hope this helps ring a bell. I really wish to purchase this group's music. Thanking you in advance,
    Diana

It might be "Go All The Way" by The Raspberries. Then again, it might not. Worth a try, anyway.

    "Go All The Way"
I never knew how complete love could be
'Til she kissed me and said, baby

    CHORUS
    Please, go all the way
    It feels so right
    Being with you here, tonight
    Please, go all the way
    Just hold me close
    Don't ever let me go

I coudn't say what I wanted to say
'Til she whispered I love you, so

    REPEAT CHORUS

Before her alone, I was cruel and mean
There was a hole in the place where my heart should have been

But now I'm changed, and I feel so strange
I come alive when she says all those things to me

    And she says (come on)
    Come on (come on)
    (come on)
    Come on (come on)
    I need you (come on)
    I love you (come on)
    I need you (come on)
    (come on)

    REPEAT CHORUS
