Default Check trans Μάρκος Βαμβακάρης - Γαϊτανοφρυδούσα ( Έλα να πά&

Hi folks, I've been trying to translate this song or some time now and I'm hitting a wall with a couple of words, the title of the song being one of them. Below is what I've come up with, not being a native Greek speaker. Could someone please look through it and correct me.

The words giing me the biggest headache are : Γαϊτανοφρυδούσα, χαμπέρι, ρούσα.

Thank you in advance for you help :-)

    σ' ένα αγέρι δροσερό
    ==========================
Come let's go to where you said
where the birds make their nests
come let's go, just us two
    to a cool vineyard

Come let's go my perfect match
and let me fetch my new things
    Come let's go, my eyes
and let me fetch my bits and pieces

    Come let's go the island
    Your mother, me and you
Come let's go, my red haired one
    and my gaitanofrydousa

Come as fast as you can
so that I may love you all the more
    Come let's go, us both
    in a cool breeze

Your translation is correct, very accurate too. Ρούσα does indeed mean redhaired, but as for χαμπέρι, I'm not sure. The best I could find is "news". Γαϊτανοφρυδούσα means a person with thin, nicely shaped eyebrows.

As a native Greek speaker, I've never heard any of these! Just in case you felt bad, don't.

I'll translate it myself here, but it doesn't mean if anything is different from yours that it's wrong. If anything, your translation might be better :P

Έλα να πάμε εκεί που λες/ Let's go to where you're saying
που κάνουν τα πουλιά φωλιές/ where the birds make nests
έλα να πάμε εμείς τα δυο/ let's go, the two of us,
σ' ένα αμπέλι δροσερό/ to a cool vineyard

Έλα να πάμε ταίρι μου/ let's go my match
κι ας φέρουνε το χαμπέρι μου/ and let them bring my χαμπέρι
έλα να πάμε μάτια μου/ let's go my eyes
κι ας φέρουνε τα κομμάτια μου/ and let them bring my pieces

Έλα να πάμε στο νησί/ Let's go to the island
η μάνα σου εγώ κι εσύ/ your mother, me and you
έλα να πάμε ρούσα μου/ let's go my redhaired
και γαϊτανοφρυδούσα μου/ and thin, nicely-shaped eyebrowed one

Έλα το γρηγορότερο/ Come as soon as possible
να σ' αγαπήσω πιότερο/ so I can love you sooner
έλα να πάμε εμείς τα δυο/ let's go, the two of us
σ' ένα αγέρι δροσερό/ to a cool wind

Some notes about my translation: I try to make as much of an accurate translation as possible. Even if something else sounds better or makes more sense, I'll choose whatever is the closest to what I want to translate in the original.

Ah, thank you so much! Now when people ask me what I'm singing I'll be able to tell them.

    Here is the song

    Does someone know a dance?
Gott zur Ehr, dem nächsten zur Wehr

What if they gave a fire and nobody came.

Hi, here's a link to the composer singing this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChCdySEdRVs

If you notice it has "απτάλικος" after the song title on this link. Απτάλικος being the rhythm to this song belonging to the καρσιλαμάς family of rhythms. More info can be found in the following link, as well as a video of some guys dancing hehe http://rebetcafe.blogspot.co.uk/2011...g-post_04.html

    cheers!
