Lei entrò, sulle scale qualcuno guardo
i suoi strani vestiti
appoggiò le spalle alla porta dicendo:
con lui ci siamo lasciati
osservai due occhi segnati
e il viso bagnato dalla pioggia
non so, mi disse, non so come uscirne fuori, non lo so.
La guardai,
ed ebbi un momento di pena,
perché sembrava smarrita,
io vorrei mi disse, vorrei che non fosse cosí,
ma è proprio finita disse poi
ritrovando un sorriso a stento:
comunque l'ho voluta lo sai,
le strade per farmi del male non le sbaglio mai.
Poi mi raccontò la storia che io sapevo già
dall'ultima volta si sentiva
che era più sola, più cattiva.
Si calmò, guardandosi intorno
e parlammo di me, bevendo più volte
si sdraiò in mezzo ai cuscini e mi disse:
con te ero io la più forte
disse poi inseguendo un pensiero:
è vero, con te io stavo bene
e se io fossi una donna che torna
è qui che tornerei.
Poi cenammo qui, le chiesi:
domani cosa fai
la pioggia batteva sui balconi
rispose: ci penserò domani!
Mi svegliai la mattina
e sentii la sua voce di là:
parlava in inglese la guardai:
aveva il telefono in mano e il caffè
e non mi sorprese accettai il breve sorriso
e il viso di una che non resta.
Se puoi, mi disse, se puoi,
non cambiare mai da come sei!
Poi se ne andò via nel modo che io sapevo già,
passava un tassi, lo prese al volo
abbi cura di te, pensai da solo.
