Oh my god, pralina, you don't know how difficult these songs are.. Ksylouris speaks an idiom that Crete has, an island in Greece. These are terrific songs, I need to work with them and give you a decent translation. But I will do it, they are so... perfect ! And since you like them, it's a shame not to know what they are talking about.

It's about a young lady who lost her husband, captain of a galley in charge of keeping the seas clear from pirates. She didn't know where he was, so she asked the Sun and the Moon to go and find him for her. But the Sun or the Moon (we don't know) replied that it saw a galley fighting with pirate ship and all those men were killed. A very tender song, very moving..

Basically, he's talking about his life. The hard times working building the villages back up, maybe during warfare how everything was destroyed.

Very powerful song. I understand it in my own way though, it is hard to translate. I'm from Kriti, so in a weird way, i feel him. Because this is how my yiayia and papou talk a lot. But he definitely is speaking in some sort of dialect, like the vlahi would speak. Who knows what a vlahos is saying have the time.

hi to everyone. i adore the eloquence of Xilouris's songs and his wonderful voice. while i was reading the lyrics of "Ήτανε μια φορά" just by coincidence winamp turned on Manolis Lidakis singing Htane Mia Fora with his lovely voice. It was a rather nice surprise for me. anyway, the main question is Xilouris's Mia Kori song, originally "ΜΙΑ ΚΟΡΗ". Honesty saying, this song haunted me in a way that i cannot spend any day without listening it at least once a day. Please let me know if you have the original lyrics and if possible, a translation; cause babelfish is not that good at translating greek to english. please help me!
