Default 80's song with high lilting female voice

I can't for the life of me figure out this song, which I've wondered about through the years, and just heard at the supermarket.

The bulk of the song is a female singing the same phrase, which sounds to me like "breathing hollow." The emphasis is on the second syllable of both words. Her voice has a high, ethereal quality, and the song has an early 80s retro feel.

    Anyone know it? Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not it. It does have a similar layered, dreamy quality though.

When did you first hear this song?

    When I was a kid -- I'd say mid-80s.

That's not it, but thanks. I've heard "Voices Carry" and "Heart and Soul" hundreds of times on the radio over the years -- I've not heard this one much.

This one is from a 1985-1995 (top popularity) group but the earliest I can find it is off a 2002 album. Otherwise, considering supermarket acoustics, it's not a bad fit.

Maybe your song isn't from the 80's.

That's not it, but thanks. Thus far, the Cocteau Twins have the closest sound to the song I'm thinking about, but none of their songs are it.

My knee jerk reaction was to guess "Dreams" by The Cranberries (Dolores O'Riordan) but their first album was 1989 and "Dreams" wasn't released until 1992. Sarah McLachlah was my next thought but she also did not start recording until 1988 and her style is more folksy than retro 80's.
Any other clues you can give us?

No, just that it's a dreamy, layered retro 80s-sounding song that I've only heard a few times in my life. Much of the song is the singer repeating a phrase that sounds something like "breathING holLOW." Her voice has a high, ethereal quality. This one might just go unsolved, I guess.

Here's a song from 1986. The background singers kind of sound like they're singing "breathing hollow".
