    Default Valley of Broken Dreams

In the valley of broken dreams
In the sound of fading screams
We find that we never really last
And one day we will be the past

And return to the dust in the galaxy
Fading from the hands of reality
When that day comes will we
    See everything we couldn't be

Or will we ignore who we are
And fade into the distant star
    Constantly yearning for more
    Never gaining never to restore

Or will we open up our lives
And see life reflecting in our eyes
Showing us a reason to live for now
And not to wait for some distant vow

I hope that we find our dreams still intact
    Somewhere buried like an artifact
    Waiting to be rediscovered
    Waiting to be uncovered

John,I say this to you more than anybody else;this should be a song! While reading,I kept thinking,"Which verse should be the refrain?"Since they're all equally good, you're going to have to figure that out,if you do ever change this great piece.Good luck on that, and I say this without hesitation;this is not only one of your best, but a mini Masterpiece!

This is great stuff man. The 3rd and 4th lines really slammed it for me.

And I agree with Doug, this could be a song. In fact... this reminded me of a song that I think Discovery or NatGeo or somebody used some time ago. I had to hunt, scrape, dig, pull my (no-)hair out before I could remember enough of it to find it online. Lyrics are onscreen:

    In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say "I'm pleased where man has been"
Or tear it down and start again.
There is no glamour in sudden death, and nobody ever wins a war.

I like that song moonrider very similar in what I was thinking when I wrote this poem but I don't think we're making it to 10 thousand years haha maybe a one hundred if we're lucky.

Hi JohnB31; these are beautiful writings, they made me think about what I would like when we are not here anymore, and I hope that some way our thougths and many amazing lines, like the ones you just wrote, can be found by someone who can read them and know about our time. Thank you for your wonderful poem.

I came back to this thread and wanted to say, again, what a great piece it is!I know it's not possible to always write something this good, but the fact that you wrote one once,is enough!
