    Default Benyamin - Karbala

    Hallo Vanda,

    could you please translate, when you have the time, the song "Karbala" by Benyamin? Is Karbala a town in Iraq?!...

    I have a couple of questions regarding Farsi:

    1) What does it mean TORO? you use it all the time... Toro means BULL in Spanish ;-)
    Is also funny that you are using BALE all the time (meaning YES if I am not wrong). We also use VALE all the time, menaing OK (literally "it-is-valid"), so every two words we say "vale, vale". Although it is written with "V" it is pronounced as a "B". We do not use the sound "V" in Spanish, although we keep it in the writing. So at the end is "BALE, BALE" , like you do! :-)

    2) Also, is BI=without and BA= with?... if so, this is a mess, because in arabic BI=with! :-(

    3) Is there any difference between GHALB and DEL? or is just that GHALB is from arabic origin?

    4) What means NADARE?

    Is funny

    OK, that is all for today.

    Thank you in adavnce,

    Laura

    of course I will do that for my dear Laura...
    yes... karbala is a city in Iraq and since most of iranians are Shia' they love Karbala. Karbala remindes Hussein(3th Imam for shia') who died toward freedom and Yazid amputated his head and killed Imam Hussein's family(It's just that I know).. iraq is a holy country for iranians because some of shie' Imams' grave are there....

    1- actually "toro" is colloquial (literary : to ra)
    "to" means "you" and "ro" or "ra" ... it's just a word for relation between object and verb... it directs object...
    for example: man toro doost daram / I love you
    man toro mikham / I want you
    o sib ro khord / he ate the apple
    2- we use also "be - به" or "ba - با" which means "with"
    but "bi - بي" means without.
    3- you are right. there isn't any diffrence. "del" is farsi and "ghalb" is arabic
    4- "nadare" means "It hasn't"
    for example: in ketab ax nadare / this book hasn't picture
    on (pesar) cheshm nadare / (that boy) he hasn't eye
    on (dokhtar) pool nadare / (that girl) she hasn't money

    * I know that I couldn't expalin in a good way so if there is any question plz ask .

    Dear Vanda,

    your farsi lessons are wonderful and your examples magnificent, specially the one: THE BOY HASNT EYE. ;-p just kidding. Actually, I have understood everything. Nevertheless, there is something that I still cannot match on the sentence:
    DONIA DIGE MESLE TO NADARE

    DONIA=world
    DIGE=???
    MESLE=like
    TO=you
    NADARE=hasnt

    What measn dige?...

    Hasan, hi, I think I have never said welcome to you. Nice to have you here.

    Ashoori,now I finally could download the music. Quite strange system... a page opens, a 3 letter code is given to you, you have to enter it in a box and click download, then wait 40 seconds and then click to download again... does it have any logic? :-/

    Well, I have been listening to some of the musics you posted there and, for me assirian sounds pretty much like farsi but with an slightly different accent... or could it be that there were assirian people singing in farsi :-)
    I also sa your webpage and your pic :-) You know, I thought it wasnt you the guy in your avatar but the cover of a CD (as some people do this). But no, it is you :-)
    I was also reading about assirians. I didnt know you were not muslims and that most of you are now dispersed thorough the world. Is sad the degree of intolerance that exist in the world. Now I am starting to understand a bit more why is so important for you to know exactly where do you come from, and where do your parents come from, and the parents of your parents... and which ethnia do you belong to.

    Well, have you all a nice evening.
