Default SOLVED: 80s new wave song with "Bop Bop Ba Da" lyrics.

    What's up,

I heard this song in the grocery store, but I couldn't make out any of the lyrics except for one part that goes, "Bop bop ba da, bop bop ba da, bop bop ba da da...". Other details:

-the pace and beat of the song is like Can't Hurry Love (Phil Collins version), Don't Get Me Wrong (Pretenders) Let's Dance (Chris Rhea) or Katrina and the Wave's Walking on Sunshine. A little bit faster than General Republic's Tenderness. Sort of sounds like a cliche 1960s high school prom rock band. Or atleast that's the feel. But the audio quality sounds like it could be 80s New Wave, or recent with 80s inspiration.

    - the verse is sort of dark sounding, but the chorus is more upbeat.

    - the leader singer is British. Sounds like Bowie, but more like Joe Strummer.

    - I think it played at the end of a romcom movie and over the end credits. If not, sounds like it would.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

This is just a wild guess, but A Flock of Seagulls - Wishing? If not I don't know.

You seem to be describing two songs:

"I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones

"I Melt With You" by Modern English

Not that one. But I would say it definitely has a similar feel to it.

It's a faster paced song. Very close to the pace of Can't Hurry Love. But it almost reminds me of Bowie's Modern Love. Thank you for the reply JP.

    Bop Bop Ba Da?
Was there a woman doing some of the singing in your song?

Nope not that one either. It kinda sounds like Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It" too. It has that same kind of old school rock and roll beat. But again, it sounds like Bowie or The Clash singing.

    Thanks Bugmetnot for replying.

You mentioned Bowie several times as a possibility. His song "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" from the 1982 movie, starts out very dark and the chorus is more upbeat. Other Bowie "pop" songs from 1983 include:

    "China Girl"
    "Let's Dance"
    "Modern Love"
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title

Not one of those either. Thank you for the reply.

Maybe I'll call up the store and see what music service they use. If I can find out that way, I'll report back with the song.
