    Default The Absence of Light

When I slip away into the dark
I notice the demons have left their mark
One after the other I count the scars
Weaving across my skin like highway cars
Leaving no gap no space left clean
I feel my soul begin to gleam
    Glowing with pain and discomfort
I feel myself begin to convert
    Into something other than me
    Becoming a tumultuous sea
Waves of terror erode me away
I feel myself slip into decay
    Further and further I fall
Into a world where all I can do is crawl
And listen to the voices screaming out
Filling my heart and soul with doubt
A place so warm a place so hot
A place where I wish to go not
It seems this place is hell
That for sure I can tell
    But uncertainty erodes my mind
And I wonder if I'm stuck in time
A single minute in an everlasting year
All these things which I have to fear
    But somehow Your always there
Shinning light on the darkness everywhere
Yes, I've been a little bit under the weather
But now it's starting to get clearer
As I stare into Your sun
I feel that healing has begun
There is not enough space or time to truly let the song unwind

I read this yesterday but it's even better on the second read. You really hooked into it with the first 4 lines. But my favorite line in the whole thing is.....

A single minute in an everlasting year

.....can seem like the most terrifying thing in the world, to feel stuck, frozen, like that's all that you'll ever be and all that you'll ever have.....a dark nothing.

So yea, it all works really well

    Hi, John.

"Healing has begun" : sounds a lot more optimistic than a lot of your writings, though
the Path Of Pain seems to have been tremendous.
One should not laugh at that:
some if not many of us have great trouble to find their way out of the mess.
You- if that is you- seem to really have taken a way for the better, John
    Absolutely great news!

Hey, thank you for the comment! I'm not sure who it is about part of it is inspired by a friend of mine another part of it is inspired by all the broken people I see on Instagram and Facebook and so on, The part about healing is a hope for these people. I know part of me dips into the dark side at times I'm sure we all do. I believe this writing represents a part of humanity we all chose to hide from.

It seems you suffered greatly in order to be able to write this.

I really dig this. The standards are different than the song lyrics you are famous for.But I'm glad you made this a poem rather than try to mold it into a song.It works. All I know is I enjoyed reading it,it's rhythm was there for the taking. It has it's own "vibe" if you will.Good stuff!
