Smile Thalia - A Quien Le Importa

Hello im a new member. i found out that you guys can translate song and i really like this song but never understood it.. if you could please translate for me, i really do appreaciate it. It's a song by Thalia. Thank You so much

    La gente me seٌñala
    Me apuntan con el dedo
    Susurran a mis espaldas
Y a mi me importa un bledo

    Que mas me da
    Si soy distinta a ellos
    No soy de nadie
    No tengo dueٌño

There might be a few errors here in there but it should give you a good idea of what she's saying.

To whom does it matter? - Thalia

    The people hint to me
They point to me with their fingers
    They whisper behind my back
    and I couldn't care less

    How much it counts
If I am different from them
    I am of no ones
    I have no owner

I know that they critique me
It appears to me that they hate me
    Their envy corrodes[them]
    My life oppresses them

    Why it will be
    I don't have the blame
    My circumstances insult them
My destiny is what I decided
    What I elect for myself

To whom does it matter what I do?
To whom does it matter what I say?
I am like so, and like so I will continue
    Never I will change x2

    Perhaps I have the fault
    For not following the norm
    It is much late
    to change now
I will maintain in my convictions
    Reinforce my positions
My destiny is what I decide
That what I have chosen for me

To whom does it matter what I do?
To whom does it matter what I say?
I am like so, and like so I will continue
    Never to change x2

This song is really hard to translate...Reason being that it has a lot of Spanish colloquialisms/figures of speech/slang/etc...so any literal translation you get is probably not going to make a whole lot of sense.

The song is kind of Thalia's way of trolling and mocking the people who talk crap about her without knowing her just because she's successful. She's kinda rubbing it in those people's faces. So it's kind of a song about vindication, or something.

Since the literal translations are not gonna make much sense (I suspect that a few commenters used an online translator. =P ...which is okay for literal translations, but since this song does have quite a few figures of speech, those literal translations aren't gonna make a whole lot of sense. English colloquialisms are pretty different from Spanish colloquialisms - due to culture and various other factors - so that makes translation harder, even for those of us who are bilingual), I'll try to translate it so that it retains the same attitude Thalia intended it to be in.

The Spanish phrase, "a quien le importa," is kind of like saying, "who gives a crap?" or "who cares?"
It's a way of saying, "why does it matter to you what I do? Lol, get a life!"

In English, the song name's literal translation is "To Whom Does It Concern," but another translation, where the differences in slang and figures of speech (and the somewhat mocking tone and attitude of the song) are taken into account, is more like this: "So what?" or "Who cares?"

Here's my translation, I hope it's a little easier to understand/discern what she saying...

"La gente me señala (people stare at me)
Me apunta con el dedo (they point me out/they point at me/they point at me with their finger)
Susurra a mis espaldas (talk about me behind my back/gossip about me/talk crap behind my back)
    Y a mí me importa un bledo (and I don't give a damn/And it doesn't concern me)

Qué más me da (Why should I care/why does it matter/so what)
Si soy distinta a ellos (if I'm different from them)
No soy de nadie (I belong to no one/I don't belong to anybody)
No tengo dueño (I have no owner/no one owns me)

Yo sé que me critican (I know they criticize me)
Me consta que me odian (They may even hate me)
La envidia les corroe (their envy is eating them up inside)
Mi vida les agobia (my life depresses them)

Por qué sera (Why is that?)
Yo no tengo la culpa (It's not my fault/I'm not to blame)
Mis circunstancias les insultan (My situation insults them/my circumstances piss them off)
Mi destino es el que yo decido (my destiny is my decision/I decide my destiny)
El que yo elijo para mí (I make my choices for me)

A quién le importa lo que yo haga (To whom does it concern about what I do/Who gives a crap about what I do?)
A quién le importa lo que yo diga (To whom doesn it concern about what I say/Who gives a crap about what I say?)
Yo soy así, así seguiré (This is who I am, this is who I'll stay/This is who I am, this is who I'll continue to be)
    Nunca cambiaré (I'll never change)

A quién le importa lo que yo haga (To whom does it concern what I do/Who gives a crap about what I do?)
A quién le importa lo que yo diga (To whom does it concern what I say/Who gives a crap about what I say?)
Yo soy asi y asi seguiré (This is who I am and this is who I'll stay/This is who I am and this is who I'll continue to be)
    Nunca cambiaré (I'll never change)

Quiza la culpa es mia (perhaps it is my fault/Maybe it is my fault)
Por no seguir la norma (For not following the crowd/for not being the norm/for not conforming/for not following the rules)
Ya es demasiado tarde (its too late)
Para cambiar ahora (to change now)
Me mantendré firme en mis convicciones (I'll remain firm in my convictions/I'll stick to my guns/I'll stand by what I believe in)
Reforzaré mis posiciones (I'll keep succeeding/I'll keep accumulating possessions/I'll keep accumulating wealth/I'll keep building up my assets)
Mi destino es el que yo decido (My destiny is my decision/I decide my destiny)
El que yo elijo para mi (I make my choices for me)

Yo soy asi y asi seguiré (This is who I am and this is who I'll stay/This is who I am and this is who I'll continue to be)
    Nunca cambiaré (I'll never change)"

Well hopefully I was able to translate it in such a way that it stays true to the message of the song, because it's such a great song and it would be a shame for the message of the song to get lost in translation.

I love her attitude of saying, "Hey, I know what people say, but regardless of the crap they talk, I'm gonna keep doing me, and living my life...and if they don't like it, oh well, NOT MY PROBLEM!!! Why should I let their misery and jealousy bring me down or ruin my life?"

    I love Thalia! <3

    Cool

The 3 translations are 0K, but this is not Thalia's original song, she made a cover, original is from the 80's, sung by Alaska y Dinarama (http://youtu.be/paccyHqIAoo)... better version, of course, but I guess you'll disagree since you're a Thalia fan
