Clearly (8/31/14)

There we were on the overlook of 3 cities,
And I never felt so small.
When you took my hand, I realized inside me,
That this is where I belong.
After naked embraces and naked hearts,
It’s killing me that we are apart.

Sunset on the beach,
the waves were crashing in,
And when you kissed my lips,
Oh, you let me in.

You made me feel important.
You made me feel alive.
You showed me things I can’t forget,
Even if I tried.
And as I kissed you one last time,
I never really thought.
That a goodbye could be that painful,
But clearly I was wrong.

I can’t believe that it’s been a year,
since that perfect night.
I’ve longed for your touch again,
My feelings I can’t fight.
When the darkness closes in around me,
And I can’t seem to breathe,
I remember when I gave it up to you,
And wore my heart on my sleeve.

The bridges I burned were far less beautiful,
than the ones we drove on.
But you showed me how destruction can be
So strangely calm.

You made me feel important.
You made me feel alive.
You showed me things I can’t forget,
Even if I tried.
And as I kissed you one last time,
I never really thought.
That a goodbye could be that painful,
But clearly I was wrong.

Clearly might be a good title.
