Here's what Glenti 101.1 FM was playing at 6:53 AM Athens time:

Το μινόρε της αυγής - 1936
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=2462
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11Aj2JN_EgA

If I were twenty-five years old, then at 7AM on a Saturday, I'd probably be in the last "quiet" hour of my Friday night (out drinking), and a song like this is exactly what I'd want to hear.

Why would I want to hear a song like this?

Because if I was still listening to music, it would mean that no one had picked me to go home with, and so I would need a beuatiful sad song like this to listen to . . .

But now, on the other hand, I'm getting to be an almost an old man, and all that is behind me ... so I need sad songs like this even more ...

Also heard these classics early in the morning of 12/21 Athens time:

Also, Dalkas 88.2FM (from Chalcida on Euboea!) has a pretty good playlist too. Mostly newer laika, but sometimes some older stuff.

At 1230am Athens time on 12/21, the station was playing this one from 1969:

    Πρώτη φορά - 1969
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=2249
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWV26xKpYmk

At 200am Athens time on 12/21 this one from 1968:

Θα πιω απόψε το φεγγάρι - 1968

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsD_Sevrs3U

At 214am Athens time on 12/21 this one from 1970:

    Καινούργιο μου φεγγάρι - 1970
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=2711

    Question for Amethystos and Duffy,

In the two posts above, I've linked to videos of some classics that were played on the Glenti and Dalkas stations last night.

Some of these videos (the ones with "stories" in them) reminded me of some "story" videos I had not thought about in a long time.

Back in the late 60's, maybe early 70's, there was a cafe on 86th Street in New York City called the Cafe Europa, and it had a kind of "juke box" which was very unfamiliar to Americans at the time. In particular, when you put your money in to play a French song, a "story" video would also appear.

Did they have the same kind of "video" juke boxes in Greece around that time? If so, were the "story" videos I've linked to in this thread made for these "video juke boxes"?

Or were "video juke boxes" just popular in France at the time?

Νo we hadn't videos on juke-box. At least i don't remember. Those videos had constructed by amateurs or by national tv and are saved by the luck.

Thanks for the information, Duffy, and also for the two cuts of Το μινόρε της αυγής. I sent the version I posted to my aunt (in her eighties), because her mother (my grandmother), always used to say that bouzoukis made her cry because they reminded her of the balalaikas she would hear the street musicians play in Baku before she emigrated to the US in the early 1900's. I will now also send your two versions.

Two other questions about the Koumioti song that Dalkas radio station played last night.

    Καινούργιο μου φεγγάρι - 1970
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=2711
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqeFqrXDf_A

    First question.

Was Καινούργιο μου φεγγάρ also from a movie, like Panou's Τι σου `κανα και πίνεις?

    Τι σου `κανα και πίνεις - 1968
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=1426
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4R9ikTQkcE

    Second qurestion.

Did Komiouti do her song deliberately to copy Panou and try to achieve the same success with Καινούργιο μου φεγγάρ as Panou had achieved two years earlier with Τι σου `κανα και πίνεις ?

The reason I'm asking is obvious - the "staging" of the two clips is so similar.

    1) Yes, the movie was called: Πεθαίνω κάθε ξημέρωμα / petheno kathe ximeroma / I'm dying every dawn (1970)

    2) Absolutely not, moreover the girl in the clip ain't Koumioti! Is Martha Karagianni the actress which replaced the singer. There was fixed methods from rec. companies to introduced new songs by the films which was very popular at that era.

Glenti 101.1 was playing this at 650pm 12/22:

    Δημητρούλα μου - 1936
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=5110
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UQl7Y1RF3M

A real clear example (in my opinion) of a karsilama that's obviously Turkish-influenced, but still very much Greek.

What can you tell us about Πάνος Τούντας, Duffy? I'm curious because I never heard him before.

Btw ... there's no Glenti 101.1 in Athens
I believe you're talking about a station located in Xanthi.

Well what do you know, Amethystos?

    You're absolutely correct!

I misread the line of the list:

I will correct the title of the post! (At least the time zone is the same!)

    Thank you!

Panagiotis Toundas (1886 - 1942) was the most famous composer who came from Smyrni. He wrote over of 300 rebetika, nisiotika and other. He had his own band and played all over Athens for 15 years. Today many famous singers sings his songs. Alexiou, Dalaras, Tsertos, Mitsias among others.
