The Girl at the Mike (a song for Jim Colyer and Annie Bushmeyer)
I think Jim and Annie might get a kick out of this song, cause seein how they're familiar with the Nashville scene, I guarantee they personally know of at least one girl who this song could be about.
Oh yeah - one other thing - the song mentions "The Tennessee Waltz", and the younger crowd here may not know that this is the title of one of the all-time country classics:

The Girl at the Mike
V1:
She came here to Nashville
like all of them do,
dreamin the same dream
they haven't thought thru.
But she had the looks
and a pretty good sound,
so I let her sing three week-day
nights in the lounge
Chorus:
Well she ain't to blame,
no, it ain't her fault -
she just got tired
of the Tennessee Waltz.
Yeah she just lost patience
with her so-called agents
Cause there's some in this town
who'll just waltz you around.
V2:
So one night this stranger
walks into the bar,
tells her he's ready
to make her a star.
Well she told him right-off
she had heard it before,
but soon after last-call,
they stroll out the door.
Chorus
V3:
Well about once a month now,
she'll sometimes drop by,
leaves her driver asleep
in the limo outside.
She tells me to mix her
whatever I like,
and she never looks once
toward the girl at the mike.
Chorus and out
