Default Panos Gavalas - Μακρια μου να φυγεις

Can someone translate? I get that it's about a lot of pain and heartache and go far away from me, never want to see you again, but just curious. Thanks in advance!

Lyrics are written by Kostas Virvos
Song was firstly sung by Panos Gavalas.

So lyrics are being spoken by a man who's grief over a woman.

BUT! Even if Gavalas is considered a charismatic singer, the song wasn't meant to be a total hit until Eleni Vitali sung it.
This time a woman was wounded by a man .....

Lyrics in both versions are similar but gender differs.
However the style of singing is totally different:
On Gavalas' version recorded on 1962, hearing was close to the original "laiko" style.
On Vitali's version recorded on 1991, hearing was close to "rebetika" - asia minor sounds.

Lastly we have Eleonora Zouganeli's version, which is a lot more modern and theatrical version.

Yes, the song has become a classic and different covers add more depth to both lyrics' meaning and music performing.

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"
