Default Παλιόπαιδο - Γιώργος Μαζωνάκης *

Ok, this is a short one, as I know it's Friday night, therefore not the best moment to ask people to do some thinking!

I only understand some words out of it, but they don't make much sense!

    Παλιόπαιδο
Για τους φίλους και σένα μέχρι τώρα
ήμουν πάντα το καλύτερο παιδί (better child?!)
Τώρα φεύγεις και είναι δύσκολη η ώρα
ένα αντίο μου πετάς και το κλειδί

    Παλιόπαιδο θα γίνω
    θα σπάω και θα πίνω
στο λέω μια για πάντα να το ξέρεις
Παλιόπαιδο θα γίνω κουράστηκα να δίνω(ok, κουράστηκα I know it means tired, cause he's tired in other songs, too )
κοντά μου αν ξανάρθεις θα υποφέρεις (...you will suffer?!)

Η καρδιά σου είναι άδεια τι νοιώσεις
την ζωή σου μες το ψέμα θα σκορπάς
και λυπάμαι αν μετά θα μετανιώσεις (and I'm sorry if...?!)
δεν θα ξέρεις τι σημαίνει να αγαπάς

Firts of all, I'm in no hurry! So, take your time, or leave it for another day.

I'll "release" a "painful" thread sometimes these days, and it took me a lot to build it!

Omorfi, ξέρω!!!! Έχω τρελαθεί!!!! See?! I'm learning!!!!

    Παλιόπαιδο
    / paliopedo
    (=) old/rotten child

In Greek, although the word is "το παιδί" (=the child), it is extremely common to use the "ending" "-παιδο" with an "adjectival prefix" ... thus: "παλιο-" (=rotten) to mean "rotten child" ; "πλουσιο-" (=rich) to mean "rich child/person ; "ομορφο-" (=beautiful) which is actually used to describe "young men" as a rule ; "βουτυρό-" (=butter) to describe an overindulged child/person ; "αρχοντό-" (=dignitary) to describe a noble young man

    ... more later ... ...

    Lightbulb There you go ...

    Παλιόπαιδο
    rotten child
Για τους φίλους και σένα μέχρι τώρα
for friends and you, till now
ήμουν πάντα το καλύτερο παιδί (better child?!) well done!
However, note that it the word "καλύτερο" is "lead by" : "το" ... therefore it would literally read "THE BETTER" ... subsequently, > "the best" ... you see ?!

I was always the best "kid"
Τώρα φεύγεις και είναι δύσκολη η ώρα
Now, you are leaving and it is (="difficult the hour/time") "a difficult time"
ένα αντίο μου πετάς και το κλειδί
(= one good-bye you throw at me and the key)
"you throw a farewell and the key at me"

    Παλιόπαιδο θα γίνω
(=) rotten child I will become
    θα σπάω και θα πίνω
(= I will break and will drink)

"τα σπάω" literally translates to "to break loads" ...
As, you probably know, Greek way of having "fun and dance" ("κέφι" , "γλέντι" ... probably you saw a Greek "oldy", " a black&white movie" from the 50's, 60's ) , would be to "break dishes" while "dancing" ... !!! ... lol ... an expression of "dance setting you free", "not caring about the trivialities of life", "allowing the soul to express freely, without any anxieties" ... so, it is partly a "heavy attitude" , but mainly a "not a care in the world" attitude ... and that is where the expression "τα σπάω", comes from ...
Nowadays, at "xeniktadika" they throw "paper towels" as you might have "experienced" yourself ... !!! ...

στο λέω μια για πάντα να το ξέρεις
I tell you once and for all, (so you) to know it
Παλιόπαιδο θα γίνω κουράστηκα να δίνω(ok, κουράστηκα I know it means tired, cause he's tired in other songs, too ) ... hahaha ... !!
a rotten child I will become, I am tired of giving
κοντά μου αν ξανάρθεις θα υποφέρεις (...you will suffer?!)
(=) by me if you come again, you will suffer

Η καρδιά σου είναι άδεια τι νοιώσεις ( ?!?!? )
Your heart is empty (... ?!?)
την ζωή σου μες το ψέμα θα σκορπάς
(=) your life in the lie, you will squander (waste)
και λυπάμαι αν μετά θα μετανιώσεις (and I'm sorry if...?!) well done !!
(=) and I am sorry (sad) if later (on) you will regret (it)
δεν θα ξέρεις τι σημαίνει να αγαπάς
(=) you will not know, what it means to love

    Ευχαριστώ!!!!

First: "Η καρδιά σου είναι άδεια τι νοιώσεις ( ?!?!? )
Your heart is empty (... ?!?)"
Actually it's "Η καρδιά σου είναι άδεια, τι να νιώσεις" I also listened to the song, and he definitely pronounces "τι να...." ! And this part "τι να νιώσεις" is in connection to the next verse, so I think it should be read as: "τι να νιώσεις την ζωή σου μες το ψέμα θα σκορπάς".

As for τα σπάω, I know what it means, cause it is also used in Ζηλεύω I understood the meaning from there!

    Ok, question:
"'"και λυπάμαι αν μετά θα μετανιώσεις (and I'm sorry if...?!)
(=) and I am sorry (sad) if later (on) you will regret (it)""""

in fact, the verse looks like this: Και λυπάμαι αν ποτέ θα μετανιώσεις. So it's ποτέ in stead μετά.

    μετά=after
θα μετανιώσεις= you'll regret (but μετά is also included in the word)
In the verse I re-wrote (τι να νιώσεις) νιώσεις looks the same as the one from μετανιώσεις, which makes me think that it has the same meaning(regret).
    HELP!
