Στου Διγενή τ' αλώνια (Η τρελλή του φεγγαριού)


Ψηλά στου Διγενή τ΄ αλώνια
τις νύχτες του καλοκαιριού
του κάτω κόσμου τα τελώνια
με λεν τρελή του φεγγαριού

Μα εγώ χρυσόβουλο κρατάω
από καιρούς βυζαντινούς
και τ΄ άγρια βάθη που κοιτάω
δεν τα χωράει ανθρώπου νους

Ψηλά στου Διγενή τα κάστρα
στον τάφο του νεκρού παλικαριού
τα νυχτοπούλια κάτω απ΄ τ΄ άστρα
με λεν τρελή του φεγγαριού

but I, a golden bull I am holding
από καιρούς βυζαντινούς

from (the) byzantine times
και τ΄ άγρια βάθη που κοιτάω
/ ke t’ agria vathi pou kitao
and the wild depths I am looking at
δεν τα χωράει ανθρώπου νους

a human mind could not take in
